Hello to the group. I was unsure where to post this and if in the wrong area I apologise.
I have Googled Australian camping and caravan books and there is a plethora of them. Could somebody please help me out what are a must read and others nice to have? Essential books to take on your travels and planning where to go and what to do when your get there. We will be travelling with two pug dogs.
A diary, so hopefully you only make the same mistakes once, seriously, so many out there, We bought a few when we started, but truly got so much information from the internet, people who had travelled a great deal and our own experiences. You tend to learn what is right for your own situation as you go. The basics you can learn for free . keep the money you would spend on books for travelling instead,
I have Camps Aus Wide #7 and Wikicamps on my phone to help me with where to stay and also other peoples opinions of these places is on wikicamps.
As well, when I get into a new town I go straight to the info centre and gather as many brochures as I think I will need for that area. That's all you need in my opinion.
When you move on and don't want those particular brochures any more, leave in a sheltered spot at the next free camp or sometimes toilets have a shelf, for someone going in the opposite direction. And if there is any there go through them to see which ones you need.
We get 3 caravan books each month, most of the time the stories are pretty much the same but its worth the money for the great stories on places to see.
I can also put my bit in for wikicamps, has to be the best for a very small investment, our trips so far have been on wiki and its never let me down.
Enjoy your travels

We have wikicamps plus an old camp 5 book. In our camp 5 book we have recorded tens up tens of other sites not mention in the book but gained through forums. particularly where members have given the site the thumbs up, so reluctant to upgrade.
Recently ordered a deal thru Caravan & Motorhome forum, and pleased to advise that we have now received the Australia Free camp book ( very impressive free camping only) and also the first of the 10 free monthly magazines with DVD attached.
We think very good value for money.

Like most hard copy books be it travel or medical text books they are only released when the market has a hole to fill . Many updates can be years old as the intended market is full so they are held back. I enjoy browsing the web and researching the route I intend to take . If I have no set plan then I do my plan for the next section from my laptop, doesn't work for all but suits my needs. Forums like this one are a wealth of knowledge and the people involved have been there and done that and have postcards to prove it
