Been an interesting day at Greens. As well as the mass exodus of grey nomads over the last two days Judy (Barina) and I have been watching all the day trippers fill up the banks of the lake. Instead of rows of vans etc, it has been rows of tents. Of course that meant from about 4pm till just now, about 9.30pm there have been queues of trailers backing up to collect their boats. Thankfully everyone has been patient waiting their turn and no fights have broken out. The last few boats were collected in pitch darkness. Tomorrow will see the remainder hooked up and everyone making their way out the gate by midday. The only sour note to today was a man of I suppose about our age, telling Judy, these grey nomads shouldn't be allowed to spend months here hogging all the good spots. There should be restrictions. Judy told him straight out, these grey nomads also keep the toilets clean and pick up all the rubbish after the pigs who have been here on the weekends and day trips. Judy also very kindly said the day she comes out here and can't find a spot will be the day she agrees with him. Looking forward to tomorrow, wonder how I can work it to be the last one out.
Yes, it's a sad thing but like the bulley you will always find the "Begrudger" The begrudger gets people stirred up, they are more dangerous than a politician. Judy you did a great job telling that person and hopefully it stopped him in his tracks

I totally agree with the sentiments expressed by the gentleman who suggested that there be some sort of time limit on those camping in the prime spots at Greens during peak periods. I reckon a 10 day stay is more than adequate and would enable more people to enjoy the experience of camping close to the waters edge.
Whilst some grey nomads have adopted the lake as their second home, it's still a public space and should be equally available to all, rather than a fortunate few who overstay.
The sooner GVW put in some sort of time limit on all campers especially during Xmas, Easter and school holidays and a small charge to help maintain the place the better.
I have no issue with that fastcoach as I only stay a few days at a time but visit regularly.
Today confirmed Don't always blame the grey nomads. As I was leaving I visited the ladies toilet to find one completely blocked to over flowing from a emptied toilet cassette The only GNs there were Judy and I and it wasn't us.

I reckon a 28 day limit like some areas in WA have adopted would be fair and equitable to all.
I bet the Water Board would never have envisaged that many would camp here for months at a time.

I reckon you should be careful what you wish for , especially in an open public forum .
Sounds to me like you Mexicans have a gem of a free camp there that is working well , and you want to see limits and charges ?
Yes it is a "Gem of a free camp" for sure and I tell you that for free.
I have spoken to the water authorities on a couple occasions and they are fully aware the Grey Nomads often clean the toilets and tidy the area up on a regualr basis. Unfortunately even the odd GN leaves a site a little messy and is left to others to tidy but at least it gets tidied and before the authorities have to do it.
Grey Nomads I speak with have no problem with a small fee or donation for the use of Greens Lake. It had a donation system in place many moons ago but was abused by the local people that use the place more than the GN's. Local's stay for extended periods as well as GN's so putting small time limits will effect them more. In fact, locals are the main users of Greens.
I am currently staying in a place that has a donation system and put $10 in just yesterday and will again in a couple of days as I appreciate what is provided here. The sign on the box clearly states it is donation only and if you can't aford it no problem or just pop in what you can afford. I was talking to the person that looks after this place yesterday and he said it is amazing the money they do get and has surprised the committee. They are extemely happy.
Congratulations to the water autorities that look after Greens Lake, they do an amazing job in sometimes trying times. Grey Nomads will continue to help keep the toilets and grounds tidy but blocked toilets are a bit more difficult.

I say good luck to the Krusty Greens Crew. I always get a smile when I read about their antics and attitude. You're the type of people I like to hang with. And I'm very choosy who I hang with.
Who keeps a eye on the place when nobody is here . Some body has to feed the fish and chips, birds a so on. We cut the grass please come and take your turn fast coach I'll lend you my clippers somebody has to be here to say hi to the locals so we get on and we do get on with them.
Hello all, am about to join the throng but want to do some short trips to get used to my van etc (never towed B4) would like to practice some free camping with 13 yr old grandson would Greens be suitable, for a few days for an old fart and his grand son?
Fantastic spot for kids, swim, fish, get hi a blow up airbed or the like, he will have a ball. The GN's are usually camped by the boat ramp - on the right - Café is Glenelg, Chief is Dougwe - not sure who else is there. Enjoy the ambience, take your own water to drink, there are flushing loos.
