Well, I'm saying cheerio to Greens Lake after nearly an 8 week stay on my first visit there, and heading north again.
Didn't expect to be there so long, but it is a really good spot to hang out for a while.
Generally good weather November-December, ranging from a bit chilly on the odd night and evening to pretty damn hot on some days, it's tempered by the lake as a good place to have a cool down swim or splash, right on your doorstep. Most important thing weather-wise is to keep your awning very well tied down though, as the wind can get quite strong and blow straight at you all day long on some days!
Not too far from the shops at Stanhope and Kyabram, or even 'big town' Echuca, though you may need neighbours to watch your spot if you are gone too long, and the communal Fish'nChip run on Fridays evenings to Rochester seemed to work well, between 3 or 4 drivers taking turns with the orders!
Space-wise, there only seem to be about 15 to 20 rigs set up most of the time along more than a kilometer of waterfront, with at least double that room again on the other side of the track or in the treeline. Plenty of space to get away from it all or others if you want on weekdays. Lots more visitors, mainly boaties with kids, jetskis and waterskis at the weekends, which provide a bit of sight-seeing entertainment, but it usually settles back into peaceful quiet on Sunday night or Monday morning. All bets are off in the School Holidays though, and the place can get crammed and noisy on occasion with tents, boats and day-trippers from Boxing day onwards, and will probably be like that on and off until the end of January I'm told. A few GNs will be staying here until then or longer, with some others dropping by for a day or two so it's a good place to hook up with forum members.
I was originally invited down by Yoeleven after meeting him at Wuruma Dam in Queensland some months ago, and have since met 30 or more GNs in my time here at various Happy Hours. Notably even more Solo Females than Solo Males seem to be around! Also managed to swap books and videos, as well as watching Black Swans, Cormorants, the odd Pelican, Seagulls, Waterhens/Coots and swarms of Galahs, so I can recommend it as a relaxing spot to meet others with similar nomadic travelling interests.
Many thanks to all who made me welcome, especially the long-standing happy hour hosts Glenelg and Dougwe, and also to the Xmas spread feeders of five thousand - Plendo and Carol. Now I know so many more people I'll be keeping an eye open for you all on my travels.
Great to meet you Paul, hope to do so again somewhere sometime.
As you know I had some things to attend to in Shepparton and got back at 11.45 to find around 30 kids and about 8 leaders set up between me and your sport. They were a church group camping near Lake Cooper and came over here with 3 ski boats for the day.
Travel Safe.
