We currently a very large sink with a molded plastic cover and the cover is suppose to " give us extra space."
But the cover is very flimsy so we are toying with taking the molded shape cover to a cabinet maker and have them make an identical laminex bench top timber cover. However we will also want to have a hatch about 30 cm square cut and hinged over the existing sink itself, so as to allow us to then lift the hatch and wash dishes etc and also be able to gain access to the water tap to fill jugs and kettles etc etc, Replace the hatch lid and we then have a huge amount of extra bench space. ( Something along the lines of the built in top loader washing machine covers.)
