I remember coming down the Kuranda Range (near Cairns) on the back of a truck with about another dozen kids. Seat belts??? The side wall on the truck was only about 18ins. high. This was 1954 I think & we were on our way down to Cairns for the Queen's visit.
Played hockey when I was in High School on a Saturday morning @ the Teacher used to pick the whole team up from the main st & drive us the 50km or so to the competitions sports ground in his new 1963 falcon ute. The first three waiting got to ride in the front with no seat belts but a heater & the rest of us got to ride in the back of the ute with nice cold Tasmanian winter wind for warmth.
