Has a shareholder of 2 of the big 4 banks I am pleased that they are not wasting our profits counting people coin at no cost . Do you know how much an hour staff cost someone has to pay .
About four years ago, we took in a heap of loose change, to our local ANZ branch. I do not know how many years we had been storing it, but it amounted to a bit less than $1,000
It was not light, and the boss ordered me to carry it by holding the bottom of the canvas type shopping bag She had already sorted the coin into the plastic bags the bank use, with the amount for each type printed on them
We were not charged anything, and the boss declined their offer of putting it into our account, as she wanted the cash to buy something privately
In regards to some shops not offering the use of plastic money
Two years ago in Carnarvon WA There was a takeaway at the main shopping centre (The one with a few tables to have a sit-down meal) They only accepted cash Recently when we passed through Carnarvon again, it was not around a meal time, so I have no idea if it is still the same
I know of one cheap restaurant in Bunbury, which I like to visit, (and can recommend) as it has both fish and chips, as well as hamburger and chips on the menu. It does not accept plastic cards, and there is a sign at the counter, directing you to an ATM a few metres up the road
I am led to believe that some banks charge the shopkeeper for allowing the public to use their plastic card
