Back around 1976 to 1980 we owned a Dodge Fuso prime mover, it had a hip cup with the electrics and took it into a auto elects, a brute bloke, he was a bit of a legend, he told me that the 24 volt electrics were one of the best he had seen and worked with in that truck. My memory is not clear what happen to the charging system pretty sure it was minor while apart threw a couple of bearing in, he said it would be cheap insurance. Nice system.
Yes they are designed to be fixed quick and very durable being a bus originally . It did have a 2litre Sigma motor to run AC . Which was removed . Only removed Alterater to fabricate better inlet to turbo . Plastic induction is not long lasting . Stainless and silicon joints now . The weight of alternater would be similar to Ecoboost 1000cc 3cyl engine . Nearly required engine crane to remove .

there was quite a few UFO's around this time (unhappy fuso owners) I take it you were not one
Rang my auto elect guy if it would be advisable to fit bearings etc . He asked how many klrs ? Said they'll do 800,000 easy being brushless . Said if it's smooth on bearings it'll be fine . So I lubed bearings . All good . What a pita fitting it back in ! Aligning bottom bolt .. Ended up fitting tension bracket to align . A wiggle .. Bam done . Man these things are HEAVY !! Designed for durability !!
It's an industrial engine etc brakes are massive being a bus . Front brakes same size as rear . Tell ya with weight of things you have to use your smarts and patience !! Being elect fitter / lineworker in past helps .. Then I think what I have to pay to get someone to do it ? Then I'm happy to do it myself ! lol
When I brought ours it was after a peroid for Fuso having a major drama, motors fitted with wrong size pistons rings, then replacement parts held up in industrial strikes on wharfs, causing delays in repairs, mostly to single operators with no real back up, not a good period.
This one was brought second hand and had been cannibalised by the dealer, when we brought the Fuso, it was fitted with new parts from the radiator, motor, gearbox and drive. 18 months old but had only seen 6 months duty before being traded in on deal where the orignal owner relpaced his whole fleet 6 in total with new Fusos, very happy man. It was a very quick, comfortable truck.
Nearly 4 years we owned it, had a couple of very small issures, was a very low cost truck to own and operate, in hind sight I did wish many times that I had kept it as the new replacement prime mover was on going money pit, the harder I tried the pit just got deeper, in the end it totally turned our life up side down.
All good now, retired, have good health, enjoying life, cann't ask for much more.
Especially if it's your income ? Most my experience is with EPVs . ( Cherry puckers with insulated buckets) 12 to 14 ton depending on number of axles ., This engine has wet cylinder sleeves . So you replace the whole bore or sleeve and piston if required . Having engine in rear . I can't explain just how nice it is cruising along with vertually no engine noise .,
