Dinette cover selection

Hi guys

Still hanging out for the caravan show at end of the month.    Hubby tells me that when you choose your van and order it etc, that you can choose the type of fabrics etc you want for your dinette etc.   Just thinking that the vinyl or leather which ever ones they have may be a better option for travelling, as I am assuming you can just wipe them over as opposed to fabric which gets so dirty.   Does the vinyl/leather get too hot to sit on in the summer?     Thank you

G'day Furball. Only my opinion, but go with some sort of cloth type covers. Vinyl ( I can't comment on leather) will get so sticky and sweaty in the tropics. Zip off covers can be washed/cleaned as required.

Cheers.

Hi Ballast2.

Awesome thank you.   Sigh I am a nitwit, I totally didn't think of them having zip off covers.   I thought vinyl etc would be sticky and hot as well.    So that is so cool knowing it will be just as easy washing them.   We have fabric lounges etc at home, and with the dog and the kids etc. they get so grotty.

Many thanks

We had fabric covers in our van. Easy to clean with carpet cleaner we found.

Hello Furball

We have a Jayco Conquest with fabric seats

The bottom and lumber supports are removable, and have zip on covers

I can not see how to remove the back part of both double seats, (or covers)
I suspect that the back part of the seats are glued on, as I see no screws

Perhaps someone can enlighten me, on how to remove the back part of the seat on a Jayco Conquest, or to remove the covers

We went through this process only 3 months ago so we could actually sign off the factory order to build the van. If anything there were so many options that it became a bit overwhelming, we had to pick colours for bench tops, table top, cupboards upper and lower, walls, floor, splash back, the fridge door facing etc.etc. we also needed to select the type of laminate finish i.e. rough or smooth, the fabric or leather we wanted, outside colour, decal colour, checker plate colour. When you have to make the final decision on colours you go to the dealers showroom where they normally have a consultant to advise you and a number of vans on display so you can have a look at some different combinations (allow yourself 3 or 4 hours). Personally we prefer the look and feel of leather whether it be in the car, lounge suites, dining chairs or whatever - we don't find it to be any hotter or sweatier than fabric but this is really everyone's own personal choice.

My advice to you about caravan shows is not to get carried away on the day with all the hype that the salesmen are going to give you. We waited for a show to sign up because we knew that they would offer extras and discounts during the event but we had already decided well before that time what we were going to buy. By the way you don't wash leather just wiping it over gently with a damp cloth is usually enough although you can buy special leather cleaning products if you want. Enjoy the experience and I hope that you find exactly what you are after.

Eeeek.   I originally thought you bought the van as was.   Then I realised of course you don't.  I thought of a motor home, then decided it looked just too cramped. Having said that it was only from the web virtual tours I had looked at.   I like the look of the 5th wheeler ones where you can have the two lounge chairs at the back of the van.  Seems more spacious.  But then I looked at a couple of them ie Jayco I think was one of them, and they had stopped making them, as had another company....

I know what I want included in there.    I don't like the idea of watching the tv for instance while sitting in the dinette.  Looks too uncomfortable.  I suppose really it comes down to what you spend.    Does anyone have a caravan with the lounge chairs? or not big enough to do it.  Many thanks.

I can guarantee I won't get carried away at the shows, I will be asking everything and hubby also.  This is double good looking now at shows etc, as they can't sell me anything, as I will not have the ready cash then, so I am safe.   If you decide on a caravan that is a particular model from the range they have, does it take long from the placement of order for the van to be done in the colours you want?

Thanks.

Depends on what the dealers have in their stock or how many orders the builder has on their books - we paid a deposit in April chose the colours and placed the final build order in August with the expected delivery given as being late this month. Last week the dealer looked at where we had progressed to in the queue and said not to expect to see it now until November. Sometimes the dealers have vans on site that have been ordered by someone and are just waiting to be delivered that's where you may get an opportunity to look at what other people have gone with.

Ah thanks for that advice.   As we are thinking of finishing work toward end next year, that helps a lot with info.   Many thanks.

Tony - they are only stuck on with these prickly circles which are screwed into the wood at the back, and an opposite on to the back of the cushion.  Give them a good pull, they come off, but not sure the covers are removable, can't remember.

Thanks for that info Jules

If I ever see my wife looking at them again, I shall be able to show off my superior intellectual capacity, and pull the buggers off

If you do choose leather please make sure it is 100% leather and not bonded or any other inferior imitation leather.
