It can happen..

A few weeks ago Eril asked me if the van was registered as she couldn't remember ever paying it. A couple of weeks went by and she "harped"biggrin again re van rego. We bought it December 2013 and it had 12 months rego, and we were at our new address when this occurred.

Son Matt was here Monday and quickly looked up the rego on Vicroads. Eril had "harped" againbiggrin  Matt said the rego had been cancelled in 2014!!! Oops!! So after shrink appointment Wednesday I called into the Vicroads office, took a ticket out of the machine and waited to be called. Thankfully I was smart enough to use my smart phone to catch up on emails, FB and the nomads forum while waiting. Very productive I was. Ticket number called and was told by the clerk that the van was indeed unregistered. I mentioned that we have never received any notifications. Eril is the mail sorter in our place as if both of us do bits things get lost and Eril is more trustworthy in this respect than I. The clerk really was not that interested and gave me a form to be filled out as well as a phone number to book in for a van inspection!!

So now have to get Eril to fill in "her" van registration form, me to ring and make the inspection appointment, then hook up the unregistered van and attend at the appropriate time. Not sure if I am in front financially or not, BUT very thankful nothing untoward happened during the last 2 years.no

Hi Aussie Paul,  if you go to the Vicroads website you can fill out a "My Vicroads account ", it's great you put all your vehicles (trailer caravan car ect.) on the account and they send you an email prior to the due date of rego. I did it about 12 months ago and works great as we no longer have rego stickers, so easy to overlook payment.

Cheers Owen.

Hmm.
10 ish yrs ago. Car.
Di from Melb still owns house in Moorabbin.
SO we registered Patrol there. Cheap.

Second or third time. (Me from QLD, so we get ours AFTER it paid for)
Disc came in mail to QLD addy.
Ahh. Rego at last. Stick it on car. and did Darwin\Broome trip that yr.

Following yr. Date comes round. NO reminder.
Phone call.
Sorry that rego cancelled last yr.
We'd been driving all over Aust. Adel. Melb. QLD plus 3 months cruising
with van. With no car rego.
Thank god we had no bumps or pulled over.

NOBODY told me those Stupid Victorians get disc. THEN pay for it.
Everywhere else? you pay. You get. simple.

And hence the reason we now paying the $145 ish a yr over the fraction of
that Viccers pay.
Had to rego toot sweet.

Gawd. My Boat rego is $160 and $120 for trlr. Ripoffs.

I got pinged by the Qld Police who passed me going the other way. Took them five minutes to turn and catch me up. No speeding just pinged by the Rego recognition camera and the car had run out of rego. Not my car but as the driver I copped the $300 odd fine. reminder from the RTA did not catch us up so forgot to renew.

Now have "Regomate" app on my phone free to download and you can enter your rego details and put in reminders months week or days before it's due. I did find out that Qld made $160 million in fines in the first six months of no stickers. Info from the RACQ so probably true.

In Sa we have monthly direct debit, for rego. Great peace of mind. Get a email for all vehicles each month advising of impending debit and when next renewal due. Good for budgeting as well.

For NSW residents - you can check the status of your vehicle registration:

Gday...

Good link Pete - here are other states ...

VIC -

TAS -

QLD -

SA -

WA -

ACT -

I suggest each state and territory, like VicRoads, has an "account" you can 'open' so that you get email advice of pending renewals.

Cheers - John

Easy done Paul back in 2007 we borrowed a mates camper trailer and went up through NT, across to Corillo Downs, Qld, etc, back through stony desert (did about 7,000 klm) when we got back I noticed that I couldn't see rego label holder so I thought it must of shaken off on corrugated roads - on giving back the trailer I offered to my mate (former Sgt of Police) to pay for fitting a new one for the one I lost - he advised me - "Oh! it's in the shed I forgot to pay it, so I took it off"

Here was I driving through half of Australia - with an unregistered trailer for six weeks.

Thanks for those links, I can't find any way I can get email notification of renewals in NSW. I have emailed RMS to see if I have missed anything on their site to request that service. They are fairly reliable in sending out notices 6 weeks before the due date.

Now legal again!! Connected up and double checked the lights and break away and headed to Vicroads for my 2.45 appointment. I didn't bother with the WDH. First look in mirrors I realised that I had not put the mirrors on the Pajero. I decided to take a punt with the rear view camera doing its job. They just checked lights were all working, took me money and gave me a new number plate. The cost was within $3 of 2 years rego costs. Obviously we had not been followed by a police vehicle with number plate recognition capabilities during the last 2 years.biggrinFound ojut why we didn't get renewal notices. Vicroads only changed our residential address when we shifted not our postal which was a PO box!!no

Looking forward to March 23 when we head to Warraknabeal for a nephews wedding and then taking a couple of weeks to find our way home. thumbsup.gif
