I've just pulled out the last of this Years Tomato crop, and what a year it's been,
I picked around 10kg or more off only 4 Roma plants, planted about 6 Months back, I could have got double that, if the darn worms hadn't got into the crop, even after spraying and dusting many times over the Season,,the little Perishers won in the end,
Here's a few pic's of what should have been a far better crop................
Unless they are a Heirloom Tomato the taste is just not there ey :) , if your a keen Tomato grower n want the taste go online and order yourself the following varieties.
Brandywine (black n red variety )
Marrianas Peace
Cherokee Chocolate
Prudents Purple
Start with these and you will be hooked :).
Grew heaps of variouse varieties till the ole namatode found my patch , now its every second year if in the mood.
In Highfields I cover the better looking bunches with a brown paper bag and a twist tie to keep the fruit fly out. Rain does not seem to affect the paper bag and the tomatoes are good as shop bought in appearance without the pesticides. Nothing beats home-grown tomatoes.
Are you sure that's a Tomato, Villatranquilla ????
looks a heck of a lot like a Pumpkin to me LOL
K.J.
I guess that's why the bush only produced 3 tomatoes, the other 2 were normal size, Not sure of the breed as the plant was given to us but is an old Italian variety, full of flesh and very few seeds which I have kept for next season.

I got a good crop off the Spaghetti Tree this year. Love using home grown tomato to make passata. Lots of home grown Basil and some olive oil on the spaghetti then the passata makes a winter meal to die for.
(Yes, I do know what the date is today)
