Modern living

Within the last few days, I passed through the Rockingham area of Western Australia

It looks a nice area, but obviously there must be a fair amount of criminals about

There was a roadside trailer (flashing lights) billboard, which more or less said

"Have you secured your house"

"Have you locked all doors and windows"

Hopefully that type of billboard, may never be required in my area

Edit....I decided to delete my comment as I think Tony read it the wrong way, as happens sometimes when you say something in writing and no face expressions are there. I did have :) though.

I appologise to Tony if that is the case and have PM'd him.

That is not so, Doug

I relied on a GPS, to get where I was going, and it took me the long way around
They would never have known, that I was going to be in that area

But on the other hand......

smile If they knew that I like to explore the regions, I am in smile
smile They may have had the same type billboards, all over the place smile
smile The mind boggles, that someone would actually think that I was a person of interest smile

'm not sure where your from Tony but there a lots of good people live in Rockingham that may find your comment a bit bad taste maybe if you pass through next week the trailer and sign may not be there it may be another suburb or perhaps there are lot of none west aussies living there which would explain the need for a sign

I am from down south, boab

I have friends, and family in Rockingham, so I do know that there are good people, living in that area

The sign was on Read Street, a beautiful wide road, with two lanes each way, and a wide verge separating them

I made the comment about the sign, (which just happened to be in Rockingham), the criminals, and modern living

It is the first time I have seen such a sign, anywhere

I'm sure there are good people living in the area, however, the fact that someone thought the warning sign was warranted indicates the existence of a problem.

People didn't take the time trouble and expense needed to set it up for no reason, ignoring or denying the existence of a problem won't make it go away.

Perhaps some of the answers are here!

http://feature.thewest.com.au/methcity/

"Some areas had recorded big increases, including an 85 per cent rise in Mandurah and a 65 per cent rise in Rockingham." from The West Australian"

Heed the warnings or simply take offense, it's up to the individual.

I think I know what the smart move would be.wink

PS Yep, Google is your friend.smile

Gday...

The Wellington Shire Council (Victoria) has one of those signs - like the 'roadworks' signs - permanently mounted on a 6x4 trailer.

They move it from area to area within the Shire on a regular basis. Makes sense to me - simply reminding EVERYBODY to exercise caution and think 'securely'.

I think these type of 'reminders' should be regularly shown to the populace. Perhaps if people are bit more 'security minded' - eg locking cars, not leaving keys in cars, locking doors and windows of anything with doors and windows etc etc ..... it just MAY slow down the lowlife looking for a quick quid to buy a quick hit of their favourite poison.

Cheers - John
