You need to get a Lightning plug to USB cable (lightning plug in bottom of iPad) to connect iPad to car stereo You can also use a 3.5mm audio cable to connect from plug at top of iPad to car radio, alternatively you could use Bluetooth.
Three different methods, it depends on what your car will accept, what model car do you drive ?

I suppose the volume isn't loud enough when you play direct from the iPad hence needing to play through radio, what about a cheap portable bluetooth speaker some where in the car to increase the volume
An easy way to connect the phone to the the radio is via a low power FM transmitter. You feed the audio source to the transmitter (which plugs into a cigarette lighter socket) and tune the radio to the transmitter.
Maybe easier to get a Small Bluetooth Speaker and pair with Ipad- normally will operate for 8-10hrs before they need recharging, otherwise you can plug the speaker directly into cigarette lighter socket with an adapter.
You can get excellent sound quality from these small Bluetooth speakers
I also got the Fm transmitter from Jcar, $11.95, plug in a thumb drive or sd card and away you go, works a treatwit any MP3 music, I have over 4 days of music on one drive and can fit the same again on the same drive.
