New to Nomads

Hi my name is Pauline and my husbands name is Peter also known as pk, we are both 60 going on 45 haha and live in Newport Queensland we are looking at travelling around this great country of ours sometime next year for about six months and would love some advise.

Firstly on what type of motor home would you recommend that sleeps at least 4 as my sister will be travelling with us.

Secondly what time of the year would you start this adventure?  Ps I was thinking like the end of April.

Looking forward to reading all your comments and advise.

regards

kellargang

Hi Peter & Paula,

This is John & Louise in Southport.

We would say do the top end in winter and the bottom end in summer, we have done it both seasons but this is by fer the best way.

As it turns out we have just the van for you [LOL] seriously its one of the most popular makes and models selling in Aust and it sleeps 4

We have a paid ad on this site, but some info attached for your convenience..we really need to sell so we will be reasonable with the price

Lets know if you have any questions

CHeers JOhn & Louise

Thanks John & Louise for your advice and the information on your van but we are looking for a motor home as I'm not really comfortable towing a caravan.

Kellargang

Yes the debate goes on LOL

If its a small motorhome like a VW etc then its not too much of a hassle to pack up each day and go sightseeing

But if its larger and you have set up an reasonable camp then it can be a hassle pulling down and setting up each day.

That's when motor home owners start thinking about also towing a little car............[or renting for weeks on end or lots of Taxi fairs...push bikes or mopeds for short trips etc]

Once down that track a 22 Caravan with a nice comfortable tow car makes a lot of sense as its eazlier to tow a 22'van behind a nice car than tow a little car behind a huge motorhome

decisions decisions

Cheers JOhn

The real secret to motorhoming is to have on that you don't have to cart extra bit and pieces , If you are set up right pull out awning a couple of chair for outside and Bob you uncle , We hire one in New Zealand for 30 days , If you take something out of the cupboard put in back in it's place when you are finish with it , So when you want to move roll in the awning roll up power and water it you had them connected and lets go shopping , Easier to park a motor home at a shopping centre than a caravan and tug . We all like different things and travel differently so do want you think will suit you , Some of us are travellers some are swatters so what are you do you need to set up a base camp for a long time or people on the move .

I think I would rather tow a small car behind a motorhome than tow a caravan

If you put this in the correct forum (The Grey Nomads - General Forum) I will answer that.

Kellargang the time to start your travel would depend which way you where heading, When we are going north we set off after Anzac day , Has some time you can pick up an last cyclone , Most start heading north after mothers day so can be good to be ahead of the mob , Has you can see some of the mob are not very nice .

Hello Kellargang

Firstly welcome to the forum

As far as motorhomes go, they are all slightly different inside

Some have a permanent bed, others have a couch and table which turns into a bed

Perhaps you should have a look inside some of them

The motorhome in my Avatar is a 2006 Jayco model FD 22 2

It has a permanent bed in the rear, and a permanent bed above the cab, the table is supposed to be another bed, but perhaps only for children

Another idea is to look on some manufactures websites, and look at the arrangement of some models

Hope that this info is helpful to you

Just noticed that this topic is in the Items for Sale area
My motorhome is not for sale, as it has sentimental value
smile It is paid for smile
