Hi my name is Pauline and my husbands name is Peter also known as pk, we are both 60 going on 45 haha and live in Newport Queensland we are looking at travelling around this great country of ours sometime next year for about six months and would love some advise.
Firstly on what type of motor home would you recommend that sleeps at least 4 as my sister will be travelling with us.
Secondly what time of the year would you start this adventure? Ps I was thinking like the end of April.
Looking forward to reading all your comments and advise.
Funny motorhome where do you drive it from .Kellargang I would post your post on the general Forum , You get a better response to your post , You live nice part of Queensland I wouldn't want to leave it , We stay at Scarborough Village from time to time , There are always motorhome in there maybe call in and talk to some of them .
Thanks John & Louise for your advice and the information on your van but we are looking for a motor home as I'm not really comfortable towing a caravan.
If its a small motorhome like a VW etc then its not too much of a hassle to pack up each day and go sightseeing
But if its larger and you have set up an reasonable camp then it can be a hassle pulling down and setting up each day.
That's when motor home owners start thinking about also towing a little car............[or renting for weeks on end or lots of Taxi fairs...push bikes or mopeds for short trips etc]
Once down that track a 22 Caravan with a nice comfortable tow car makes a lot of sense as its eazlier to tow a 22'van behind a nice car than tow a little car behind a huge motorhome
The real secret to motorhoming is to have on that you don't have to cart extra bit and pieces , If you are set up right pull out awning a couple of chair for outside and Bob you uncle , We hire one in New Zealand for 30 days , If you take something out of the cupboard put in back in it's place when you are finish with it , So when you want to move roll in the awning roll up power and water it you had them connected and lets go shopping , Easier to park a motor home at a shopping centre than a caravan and tug . We all like different things and travel differently so do want you think will suit you , Some of us are travellers some are swatters so what are you do you need to set up a base camp for a long time or people on the move .
Kellargang the time to start your travel would depend which way you where heading, When we are going north we set off after Anzac day , Has some time you can pick up an last cyclone , Most start heading north after mothers day so can be good to be ahead of the mob , Has you can see some of the mob are not very nice .
