Clothing sizes

I needed to buy some new shirts and pants.  So I went into the shop and went to the Medium size, which I have always been.  My dear Wife always purchased my clothes and now I have to do it myself!  None of them joined anywhere near the middle!

Amazed at my sudden weight gain, I asked for assistance, passed my old pants, not having my glasses, to the young lass to find out what size I was.  The young lass passed me a pair marked XL!  They fit!

When did I become Extra Large?  Even my shirts are Extra Large!  So my question is why do the old clothes with medium labels still fit me and the new medium clothes do not even meet in the middle?  Why am I an Extra Large when I am 5' 6" tall?

Who determines clothing sizes?  They need a foot somewhere!

LL hi

I have over the last few years experienced same problem with shirts, very skinny fit, most of the time I could get into sm size easy, then few years back I would only buy medium but now large. Jocks are the some, been buying medium, having a quick look down there, its no bigger but feel squashed in that area and uncomfortable, so just the other day I lashed out and brought 3 pairs of merino wool undies in a large size, just perfect and incidently they are very nice on the body, quick drying which I wanted for travelling all at the price of pair trousers each. Not cheap.

I have been retired now for 4 years and my work clothes fit nicely, my work body weight was 76kilos and now sub 80 and now trying to loose those extra kilos. 79kilos this morning.

I haven't hopped on the scales for 15 years, been a MEDIUM all my life. We do a brisk walk of 50mins to an hour every morning plus we do a lot of bushwalking during the day.

We also stay away from bakeries & restrict our wine consumption.

When I buy tee shirts in places like Target I always buy a LARGE to allow for shrinkage which always happens on the first wash.

You're right about sizes varying, at the moment SLIM FIT is in fashion that's probably why you needed a larger size.

RIVERS is the weirdest place for sizes.

Of course you realise that clothes shrink in the wardrobe. A calorie is a little bug that lives in wardrobes that shrinks clothes.

I'm same weight as I was when i was 18 but 2 sizes larger (now 65). Middle aged spread. Luckily Harris Scarffe sell "short" sized jeans so the Secretary of War no longer has to take my jeans up. I'm 5'10' and have L, XL, XXL & XXXL shirts. Depends on brand and make and where they are made for. Anything from Hong Kong made for their local market will never fit, regardless of size. Some markets think that large size is taller person, not a short/medium person with middle aged spread. My L size stuff is made for the US market.

Tell me about it - I have lost more than 35Kg (due to diabetes), and still wear 5XL, because I have very broad shoulders, any smaller and I can't get the arms down :)

The only thing I hate is everyone saying how I must be feeling so much better - nope, feel exactly the same!

I don't think we have standards for clothing any more - I bought a pair of jeans, same shop, same brand as last year and marked the same size - could not get the waist done up, took them back, and the girl said - yes you often need to buy one or two sizes bigger than previous - depends where they are made.

Bought a T shirt - same thing - when I held it up next to one from last summer - it was a inch narrower on each side - two inches in total, I really think something needs to be done about this - I know women who have worn the same size all their lives (lucky them) - now have to buy two sizes larger - same size measurements and same weight as she has always been.

This is one thing that gives people anxiety about their weight - young people with bulimnia etc.

It does appear to be no standards on clothes sizes

I suppose that it is now becoming the norm to, "try before you buy"

Get on the drugs I'm one mate.
NOTHING makes you go.

Then. All of a sudden. Boom. Super full pan.
Sore ar-e and 2 kilo lighter.

wind up for next one.

And to think. Up to 3 or 4 yrs ago. 3 a day. without even blinking.
And fall asleep with head on way down to pillow.

I often stay awake 2 or 3 days at a time nowadays.
Sleep when I'm tired.
Bed 2.15 am this morn. Back on here at 5.30 again.
Watch bike race till 2 am tonight. MAYBE go to bed after that.

You get used to it. and it don't bother you.
Just part of old age methink's.
I never slept much.

As long as a man can still smile. Everything going fine yes.

As long as you don't wake up early, have a crap, read a book, then get out of bed.

Don't even THINK it Rust.
Don't even think it.

I did once. In Hospital yrs ago.

They loaded my drug line up too much.
I fell totally asleeep. Totally relaxed and crapped.

They reckoned after. I went over the line for a while.

Intensive care. and my Nurse went out of room to tut.

I'd been clinically ded coupla days before on side of rd anyway.
so....
wasn't too much bothered either way just then.
They'd kept me asleep for a coupla days after accident
to put me back together again.

Did she get her fingers slapped though.

Good to see the post about the change in clothing sizes has managed to stay on track! I am totally glad macka had a very productive input into this subject and once again totally diverted the thread to his own machinations! Thanks for the input on Licorice macka, certainly gave me an insight as to why I don't bother reading posts with your comments because loose bowels often follow! macka, sorry, friendly advice, think before you take over a post!

The topic is "I digress". Macka is doing just that - digressing and in the process is keeping me amused.
