Over the last couple of weeks I've received several calls on our landline (that I no longer answer) from estate agents. Always getting stuff in my letter box saying that houses in my area are in demand, we have someone interested in a house in our street etc. so I suspect the phone calls are replacing the paper.
I looked up the Do Not Call Register rules. Nothing that I could relate to being approached to sell. I wrote off to DNCR asking specifically about estate agents calling as their on-line documents were confusing. All they sent me back was the same article that I'd read. Where to go next?
Rather like making a complaint about a Help Desk (e.g. Telstra) only for the complaint to be handled by the department who you are making the complain about. Where to go next?
Or going into a bank to close accounts because of several run-ins with a very lazy & rude person only to be taken back to the person who is the reason for closing your account.
Our wired phone is soon to go !! WIRED ? Well it's not anymore? Since NBN it's part of that network now ., Wifi through house. We hardly answer the home phone !!

Our landline phone was switched to the new NBN plans last week.
Today I got my LAST bill from Telstra (no more paying over $40 a month for line rental). However, the greedy B......'s capped off my bill with a greedy $8 charge for Local Number Portability Service Fee. Even when you are leaving them, they still manage to rip you off ! Well done Telstra !!!

The landline that comes with the NBN is still wired and uses your existing landline number. I just pulled the plug on the landline but still monitor it via the NBN modem who calls from time to time. Have set landline to go almost directly to 101 voice mail. I can retrieve my 101 on the landline via my mobile. We think we've told everyone who matters about our change as I only get junk calls now.
My iPad is set up to do anything my iPhone can do telecommunications-wise. That's not through the NBN WiFi though.
Finally got my NBN and both mobiles (wife & me) under control as far as plans (tariffs) go. With the landline un-plugged, I get no landline charge surprises.
When my NBN Plan comes up for renewal in December, my landline phone will be gone... However I have a little trick for these annoying people who call selling something or whatever even though I am on the Do Not Disturb Register. I tell them there is a knock on the door and will they hold for a minute while I answer it.. I then put the phone down and continue whatever I was doing. After about 30 minutes, I pick up the phone and you wouldn't believe it, these impatient people have hung up !!!!

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
I would love to get rid of the landline, however, we will never get fibre optic to the house and will never be a true NBN connection. It will be copper as it is know and according to the Telstra Technician who came and fixed the waterlogged connection a little while ago, we will be lucky to pick up any extra speed due to the poor condition of the lines and trying to match technologies so disparate, we may find speeds drop!
So much for living in the bush! I actual have two cans joined by a piece of string between the front door and front gate, we get great reception and it is free!
NBN to my house was not plain sailing. I've had NBN since October 2014. The cowboys who connect it to your house are just that - cowboys. They put a whole new meaning to collateral damage. Having a node at the end of the street at least keeps them away from your house. I had my copper broken when the fibre was pulled thru. The technician took no responsibility. NBN took no responsibility. Somehow is was Telstra's problem as they were my provider and they took 5 days to fix. Big backlog clearing up damage caused by NBN techs. NBN are not responsible for damage as are other utilities are - gas, water, sewerage etc. have to clean up and /or repair damage. NBN doesn't.
They also did damage to my mother's from lawn that was never fixed.
