SMS on Marriage equality

I just got an SMS on my mobile asking (telling) me to vote YES. No idea how my number was obtained but getting an un-solicited political message on a phone that is registered on the DO NOT CALL REGISTER has pissed me off somewhat.

Gooday,

You were not alone, I blocked the caller as I do with other similar rubbish Text Messages.

Cheers,

Unfortunately I am unable to see where it came from so unable to block and replying it got rejected. No better than all those hoax callers.

I get lots of junk mail sms messages ... I just ignore them.

We didn't get one on the 'survey'.

In any case we both voted YES on the day that the forms arrived.

What I am concerned about is where my mobile number was obtained. I felt as if my privacy was invaded. Up to now I only get unsolicited phone calls on my landline as it's in the White Pages.

The group that sent the message claimed that the numbers sent to were generated randomly by computer.

That would seem to be probably as many of the nuisance calls people suffer are also generated this way.

While I objected to the intrusion (I also received one of the calls), I would suggest that our numbers aren't in the hands of this or any other any group due to this process.

I think that we leave bits of our personal information scattered about the place.

eg. We leave our contact numbers (often Mobile numbers) with service organisations & a vast range of bricks & mortar and on line businesses.

Lots of people enter a range of on line 'competitions' that provide personal data ready for whatever use is intended & for sale or to be 'stolen' & resold or whatever.

In this age of automated records it becomes a rather simple process to harvest them & put together saleable lists that are quickly distributed to all & sundry.

Do you really believe all of the apparently mandatory privacy policies of the organisations that we deal with ... when they see a dollar in it.

It should come as no surprise that your personal details are readily available to those who have the smarts  & desire to seek them out.

I got one too during the night. I hate it when others invade what I consider my privacy to influence my thinking. In these cases, rightly or wrongly I always do the opposite. It makes me feel better.

Some say that sometimes I cut my nose to spite my face, but hey its MY nose and MY face.

My wife & I got ours in the middle of the afternoon. My daughter got hers at 1:00am in the morning. Given her & hubby are emergency service workers, she panicked. Thought it was a callout, especially since it was a Saturday Night / Sunday morning.

Not sure if I believe the randomly generated bit as I believe that is illegal in Australia. Wonder if some overseas call centre that doesn't play to Australian rules has been involved. I keep my mobile number very private so I'd really like to know what I did (or what someone did) to get it on a SMS sending list.

Nope. Haven't got any junk mail either although I suspect it maybe too late. We got our voting forms the day they were released (12th Sept or next day) and sent back the following day.

The people in the "NO" camp don`t do bottom of the bird cage calls.

I didn`t vote for "Adam and Steve" or "Alice and Eve".

'They' never asked for others to be judging whether they should be legally allowed to marry, likewise 'they' never asked for this postal ""opinion"" non binding on anyone...given the circumstances 'they' now are compelled to promote their cause with no set parameters to work to/ mutually agreed to, at the start.........it's going to get more intense by both sides to the argument....M$120 up the Kyber for absolutely nothing....it will come to pass, and the sun will still rise next morning and the morning after....legalized in NZ 4 years ago and I'm told the sun still rises there as well....live and let live...Hoo Roo

How come I do did not get one of those text messages

Do I have a case for discrimination ?

smile Is it because they think that I am more foolish than them, and will beat them with experience smile ?

smile Or is it because I do not have my own mobile phone, but rely on the goodwill of the wife to pass messages on to me smile

Or is it because we sent the survey off, as soon as we received them, and it is now too late for me to vote yes ????

Because we did not receive this text on our communal mobile phone, according to her who knows

Too late.  We voted the same day as the forms arrived.

Interesting .. SWMBO didn't get one on her new iPhone though. (Kogan on Vodafone net.  sssh ... cheap with lousy coverage)

Edit ... This link may explain how hou got on the SMS list

Remember watching a debate on gay unions back in the 1970s when a married man (with a heavy European accent) replied to a gay man with the statement "if a we all a be a like you mate we all a be disappeared".

Gday...

Actually, marriage does not produce children, it is the act of procreation.

And there are many, indeed very many, children produced outside of marriage.

There are also children produced within marriage that are adopted out.

Often couples within a marriage remain childless whilst one or other of the partners produce children outside of their marriage.

Obviously, there are also many who produce children in long-lasting relationships and decide never to enter marriage.

Hard to fathom the fixation on children when discussing marriage. Just the adherence to cultural 'norms' I guess.

Cheers - John

Yep.   Got one this afternoon filled with hate speak and predicting the wrath of someone called God.   At least the Yes ones are all about equality for all and not about hate for people who think and are different to the religious nutters.

If the NO phone call comes as voice on my landline it will be a waste of time as I don't answer that anymore. Just hope I don't get it on my mobile as per the YES SMS.
The YES people are also not about equality as they cannot see that some people do not agree with them.

Gday..no cry no Rusty that is exactly what a debate is all about.

Two (sometimes more) sides presenting their firmly believed opinions and position - attempting to inform and/or persuade the opposing view/s.

Add to that a 'contentious' issue and wallahhhhhh .....ya got wot we got now. no

Ya can thank our guvverment mate ... they are the one's who insisted that the general public will be subjected to this 'non-binding opinion poll'. cry cry

..........and its got some weeks to go yet. hmm cry

Cheers - John
