Of course we sort of claim Storm as a Queensland team with their key players Smith Cronk & Slater. They'll be hard to beat. What a club record they would have if not for their salary cap cheating.
Just can't believe how well the Cowboys do without their stars for much of the year & their never say die tenacity.
I think that coach Green has what Benny used to have before the diversions of New Castle got in the way.
It was good (ish) on Friday to not have Gus Gould as a commentator & I was amazed at how reserved he was tonight. God that man annoys me with his pontificating.
Looking forward to next week's GF. It should be a beauty.
Cupie I will fully support your move to eject all of the NSW teams and send them back to the NSWRL , we could then disband these stupid amalgamated clubs and bring back some of the tradition that has disappeared from our game. Supporters of the Newtown Jets, North Sydney Bears, West Magpies, Balmain Tigers, St George Dragons , Illawarra Steelers would probably jump at the chance of supporting their own home grown products in a top tier competition again. You could then play your own finals in Brisbane every year with clubs from Brisbane, Gold Coast, North Qld and Melbourne without any interference (or support) from those of us south of the Tweed - you can even have the Warriors up there if you want them.
Yep, Friday night was great to sit back and enjoy watching my Melbourne Storm get into the Grandfinal next week.
I then sat back last night and watched my second team the Cowboys win a great game to get them into the Grandfinal as well. What a team.
Bugga, now what to do? Both my teams are playing each other in the Grandfinal. I know. Sit back and watch the two best teams in the NRL battle it out like great worriors should do. I can then sit back and watch the Melboune Storm accept the winning trophy.
LET THE BATTLE BEGIN.
GO STORM

Unbelieveable efforts from NQ......perhaps the biggest dilemma now facing Green, should Matt Scott with his much needed 109Kg and experience but without recent match experience replace one of the NQ worthy Final players/warriors?.....personally I wouldn't touch that team one iota unless injured.....how was that NQ goal kicking last night and he barely had one good eye to see with...6/6..un..bloody..lieveable.....may the best team on the day win..they both deserve it......got a full bottle of Bundy waiting for this one...Hoo Roo

Ha Ha!!
Good luck in getting the media moguls with their mega dollars (that keep the game afloat) agreeing to that. It would immediately decimate their watching audience .. who outside of parts of NSW/Sydney watch Balmain play North Sydney.
We have long left behind the hamstringing era of chook raffle & pokie funded Sydney centric RL.
In an case I feel that many of the NRL (does that stand for National RL or NSW RL?) officials try to run the competition as a pseudo NSW RL.
AFL, Rugby Union & Soccer would certainly welcome your suggestion.
I would much rather see a reduction in the ridiculous number of Sydney teams and expansion into The Pacific Islands & PNG. Perhaps even Perth & Adelaide too. Had we stuck with Super League, by now that's where we would have been with the Dinosaurs of the old NSWRL consigned to the bin of history.
Of course the is a strong & vital place for local second tier (stepping stone) competition. eg The Qld Grand Final today includes the Papua New Guinea Hunters team. Expect to see lots more of their players in NRL in the future.
Edit .. BTW how could you have a 'Top Tier Competition" if you excluded the best Aus teams who are playing next week.
In any case gone are the days when Sydney capital can lure all of the good interstate players to their clubs .. I think that the Broncos club is the most profitable club at present. How long would your pokie clubs continue to pour extra dollars into their 'Local' football clubs playing in a Sydney competition that will inevitably become second tier despite their illustrious names.
There is nothing to stop the Sydney (not NSW) supporters from moving towards a competition with clubs using those names .. & stuff the NSW Country ... just as you are doing with the City v Country pre SOO games.

Unfortunately Cupie I think that you are right gone are the days when tradition meant anything, when clubs used their own home grown players who played mostly for the love of the game then probably went to work after it. Now as you say rugby league is being driven by the media and the big dollars that they inject, there is no player loyalty with few of them staying at any one club for more than a season or 2. Of course there are exceptions to the rule like JT but players will go where they can earn the most money and who can blame them for that their careers are relatively short. They say that there is a salary cap and and therefore an even playing field but look at the playing roster of my club the Knights compared to clubs like the Storm, the Roosters, the eels etc, and tell me how it's possible to have such a big gap in top name players. All I see are homegrown players being continually recruited by the other clubs especially those based in Sydney but I guess they have been doing that for the last 110 years.
Newcastle was a foundation club during the first 2 years of rugby League in this country, was one of the main battlegrounds between the ARL and the super league and was regularly a graveyard for the international touring teams. If they don't start shoring up their traditional rugby league areas then the chance of an expansion into other non traditional areas will become remote as they aren't going to have enough quality players coming through to support it.
A warning shot was fired last week when the Matildas played in Newcastle and drew a bigger crowd than the NRL finals that had been played in Sydney the previous weekend. If the Jets start winning you may well see the A league do what super league couldn't i.e. take over in this town - people have been so disappointed in the demise of the knights since that Tinkler debacle. Good luck to all you Storm and Cowboys supporters, enjoy your day unfortunately I won't be able to watch it unless I can find somewhere here in Sohar (Oman) with it on..
Perhaps we have a lot more in common than in our differences.
Enjoy Sohar.
PS.... The PNG Hunters won the Qld 'In Trust' GF! I didn't watch the whole game because the first 10 minutes looked as though the Sunshine Coast Falcons were going to run all over them. The Hunters won with a stunning 'last minute ' effort. Great Stuff. Big celebrations in PNG tonight I suspect.
edit .. We once had great PNG player in the Qld team so I suspect that PNG players are Queenslanders for SOO purposes .... LOL. Whatever it takes!

Macka, The Cowboys have 3 NSW players in the GF, whilst The Storm has 5 NSW players,= total 8 NSW players, however there are no NSW State of Origin players in the GF.....
I can't see our NQ boys beating The Storm.....it will be great to watch, however I believe it will be a large Storm margin win....unfortunately.....
If tickets are given away I hope its the grass roots NRL supporters who score them and not the Silvertails/Political leeches........Hoo Roo

I'm afraid that NQ will find it difficult to overcome the Melb machine with its great spine.
Let's hope that NQ get a fair rub of the green this year & no 7 tackle sets et al.
I might even be able to listen to the commentary given that Gus has no NSW team to show his disgusting bias for. Why they persist with him astounds me.
It will be great for the game if NQ land win the good old under dog that's been writen of in all the finals ,coming through to beat a juggernaut that's invinceable fingers crossed it can happen...
What amazes me about Queenslanders is that they are always claiming to be the underdog whether it be a 10 year run of wins in SOO or a grand final. The cards are always stacked against you and it will take some herculean effort to beat the juggernauts (that's a new one) that you're playing. I believe this is because if you do lose you can just write it off by saying "well how could we expect to beat them when it was all stacked against us" if you win you immediately claim that your players are legends because they overcame such an ill matched foe. These are the 2 strongest teams in this year's competition stop putting up the white flag before they even run onto the ground, have a bit of backbone and be confident in the side that you're supporting - I'm sure the Cowboys players are. If that was the Knights out there on Sunday you can guarantee that nobody in this town would believe anything other than we are going to win regardless of whether we were the underdogs or not. Enjoy the spectacle and stop worrying about losing , even if you come second it has got to feel a lot better than claiming your 3rd wooden spoon in a row. You know what we are still proud supporters of our team and this is backed up by the crowd figures - I can't wait to see McDonald Jones stadium at capacity again when we do finally recover from that club destroying Tinkler debacle.
Macca as usual your'e full of it...there a lot of people in NSW who will watch and enjoy both the game and the day unfortunately I'm not one of them as I'll be in Oman working on night shift trying to pay for my new Jeep .
Sorry Cupie I didn't see the typo that I made in my previous post, please believe me calling you "Cutie" was an accident - and by your Avitar a long way from the truth.
cheers BB

Macka, unfortunately you have invented your so called facts again. Every year, the NRL give a certain number of free tickets to junior clubs and associations to enable the kids to attend for free. It has been going on for at least the last 50 years as I remember our club of five stone sevens all getting a ticket to go to the grand final in the early 1960s.
Most of the tickets for the grand final are sold out well before the finals series so the punters never know exactly who will be playing. A certain amount are held back so if your side manages to get in, you have a chance to secure a seat.
It is funny, but the majority who seem to get carried away with NSW bashing in Queensland are the ones that weren't even born there. I think they are called "wannabes".

If your assertion is correct then I am in the minority. An invented 'fact' perhaps.
While I'm at it .... I think that looking at BB's last post he has got too much sun over there making oil Billions for the Arabs. Even looking at a Jeep! I thought it was going to be a top end Toyo .. or maybe he has listened to Macka's views on them.
Now have a nice day youall ... Go the Storm/Cows. Who cares. Let's hope for a good, close & fair game.
BTW BB would you like Benny back along with all your other player (non local Newcastle) new season buys? Doesn't seem right that you guys are not sticking to an all local player roster.
Cupie Newcastle are and have always been the worst recruiters in the comp. we let too many of our local players go to other clubs to become stars then we waste money on fringe players usually approaching the end of their career who break down early in the season and sit with the coach all year. I only wish the knights management would have a close look at the clubs like the Storm who are always up there and look at what they are doing differently. If I owned a company getting these sort of results every year I'm sure the management team wouldn't be around for long.
Anyway mate the sun isn't affecting me I'm just as smart as I ever was and I'm not making oil billions for the Arabs I'm restarting an Arab aluminium smelter so that they can put the Aussie ones out of business and make our greenies happy. Just trying doing my bit for Australia

It came from items I was looking on on Net news in rugby pages yesterday or prev.
They didn't want to admit to lots of empty seats for the final
so were going to give tickets away to fill the benches. pages.
Just passing it on. Could be genuine. Could not.
The trooth will out. eventually.
Either way. Plane tickets are hard to get going to Melb.
AND very exxy.
Friend trying to go back last thurs. Cost her $650 rather than usual $300+
Comes up about 5 times a yr.
Can't LEAVE.. her 50 yr old son. Still live together????.
She welcome to live downstairs full time.
DMaxer...I thought Leading Questions can only be employed whilst examining a hostile witness, Your Honour'.....why confuse issues with facts?.....yours cryptically...
I fear our gallant NQ Cowboys won't get within 20 + points of The Storm.....they will be 'outthought' in far too many areas by the big 3, including not having an established pressure kicker up to the class of Cammy Smith....they will give their all in a possible GF bloodbath...

Au contraire, Goldy. The Cowboys just keep aiming up every week and I reckon they are the team that nobody wants to play. They have the best forward in the game and the best half back (on present form) playing for them. The Storm have played well in patches but Parramatta showed how to rattle them, and the Cowboys are a far better side than Parramatta.
Imagine the pressure on Green if JT was fit and this was his first game back. He would be loathe to shift Morgan as this team is really balanced and focused. Everyone,me included, wrote them off when they lost Scott and JT, but look at them. They have nothing to lose and no one expects them to win. The pressure on the Storm will be enormous and I hope the Cowboys flog them. I think they will win.
Well done Dmaxer you are the only Queenslander I've seen with enough courage to say that your side is going to win instead of making excuses about why they won't - hang on a minute don't you come from the north coast of NSW ? I'm not taking my new Jeep up that way I want it to get used to handling tough unforgiving places not wimpy ones where everyone throws in the towel before a fight

Gday...
DMaxer ... I have no idea about free tickets for previous years .. or whether "most of the tickets for the grand final are sold well before the finals series" ... but this is the news release about this year's free tickets ....
Yes BB. It has always been the case with some of the Queenslanders and the wannabees. Carry on about all the challenges before the event and then crow about it as if it was a foregone conclusion if they happen to win.
That has been the case in the past Rocky. I imagine this year with two interstate teams playing, the locals would rather watch on the TV than fork out for teams they dont support. I imagine it would be like two Sydney teams playing the Grand Final at Lang Park.
The other point Rocky is that the crowds and the finals series have been financial disasters this year. Just to get in the ground, have a beer or two and something to eat is expensive. The average punter with a few kids would need a second mortgage just to see a game.
Cameron smith, cooper cronk, billy slater, add those players too any team what a head start, would nsw wales lose as many games if they could have those players ,take them out of the storm and would Bellamy be such a great coach? Those three players are the storm, those three players plus J T are Queensland, there what the cowboys minus the great J/T are up against good luck cowboys you will need it .
