Not wrong there Stretch. Same down the other end and up around the tree line as well. Yet, still quiet at night, FOR NOW. That will change for sure.

Now I know it takes a long time for news to get down to site 200e mate so to let ya know the latest. Lakeside Drive has been changed to Lakeside Boulevard and not only that but as well even the water people have doubled the rates along said Boulevard. Lakeside Drive is only on the west side of the launching ramp and same rates as before.

I suppose being that far down it's like living in the 'wild west' of Aus biggrin biggrin Only at the east not west biggrin biggrin Takes a while for news to get there. biggrin biggrin

Nup. The official sign about New Year closure. One next to ramp. One at toots. Two up at gates.

I put a pic of the sign in my November update. It has since been changed to 29th TO 31st, reopens 1/1. They added an extra day as well. Was 2 nights now 3.

Sure is crazy already HB. People everywhere and many Aussie flags including mine proudly flying.

A few spots down a group have a large Aboriginal flag and a large Aussie one flying upside down.

Hey kaid, you should fit in well then! I was feeling a bit self conscious not having a flamingo or swan until a storm sent lots of them migrating south. Todays tip is keep your pets tied up when not in use! Stretch.

I thought people up at Greens Lake may be interested in the extract from country news (30 Jan 18) attached. Particularly the references to camping requirements and the not more than seven consecutive days. Though I suppose it is probably OK unless they enforce it.

I also read on the rules for the greeens the camping distance from the water line not many follow the rules .

confuse I would be very sure that those camping rules as stated in the news article are not known to those who have, and are presently, camped there.

If these new rules have been gazetted, one would assume there would be some new signage erected at the lake by now.

I have tried to research and found no mention of any updated rules such as in that article - including on the Goulburn-Murray Authority website.

They do still have this information -

What no Pets?!!!!! Heaps ignore this rule. Even me on a couple of occasions. One thing I did like about Greens Lake was my furry friend could come along. Does that include Pink Flamingos?

Yes Jules your right we must know the rules of all free camps , The reason free camps get closed down is people not following rules and don't want that to happen .

Mmmm some of this info is out of date. There is a dump point at greens and rubbish skips provided. I'm sure if GMW wants to enforce any of these laws they will remove the old signs and put up new ones stating any rule changes. Until then its business as usual. Stretch

Some updated info.

I was talking to someone from GMW late morning today and he said as long as all is going smoothly and everyone here is looking after the spots they are on and not causing any bother, no grey water being let out near the water edge etc they are more than happy to let things go as they are for now. Maybe things will change in the near or not too distant future but as Stretch has just said "business as usual" FOR NOW. We will keep on keeping on. All being good girls and boys.

I have the same story as young Doug after a long conversation with G-MW this morning following an email I sent to their General Manager.

G-MW are responsible for about 30 or so water resources, 19 of those have 'recreation and/or camping' facilities.

Their by-law, passed on 27 March 2013 for ALL their water resources state, in part -

Campers must camp at least 20 metres away from the landward of full supply level of the lake;
A person must not camp on, occupy or use the area for more than 7 consecutive days;
A person must not use or dispose of any soap, detergent or similar substance (eg grey water) within 50 metres landward of the full supply level of the lake;
A person must not bring a dog (or any animal) into a recreational area or allow a dog to enter into the area.

These regulations/restrictions are in place AND enforced at all other water resources managed - but not at Greens.

The statement made by G-MWs Customer Operations General Manager, Scott Barber, in the recent Country News was simply a reminder to those camped at Greens Lake over the school holidays that there are, in fact, regulations (call them common sense rules) that G-MW have at their disposal to enforce .... should they choose to do so.

As young Doug advises above, G-MW have no intention of altering the recreation and camping arrangements at Green Lake in the foreseeable future. In my conversation with the Communications Manager at G-MW he stated that IF the camping arrangements were to change it would ONLY be AFTER they did a leaflet drop to the Corop Store and posted 'Advisory signs and posters' at the lake stating that at "a date to be notified" when the regulations I quote from the by-law above would be enforced.

He also stated that G-MW were very aware that those "non-local" campers who spend some 'extended time' camped there contribute to the cleaning of the amenities block and the general cleanliness of the camping area. They are fully aware that it is school holidays, long weekends and public holidays that create the most heartache to the police and other authorities at Greens Lake.

Therefore, there are no changes to camping arrangements at Greens - without considerable fore-warning at some time in the future (if at all).

Personally speaking...I wouldn't stir the pot at all about the "Rules" and just let things be as is at the present time.

The more said and written about "Greens Rules" will get some Bureaucrat in an office to begin thinking and, as we know, that could be dangerous.

The biggest issue would be not to dischage your grey water onto the ground if you are camped closer than 50 mts from the water line .

Brickies I would also suggest the 20m from foreshore so people can actually walk the lake edge instead of dodging guy ropes and fires.

One needs to understand the infomation I said earlier, that -

The qualification "landward of full supply level of the lake" hasn't been defined at Greens lake and is not the "water line" but a point somewhat 'inland' from the waterline.

Also, as I was told by G-MW "G-MW have no intention of altering the recreation and camping arrangements at Green Lake in the foreseeable future"

From my experience at Greens, most campers are at least 15 metres from the actual waterline ... and people most definitely are able to walk along the lake's edge without impediment - and do.

On public holidays etc, I concede some of the 'locals' get a little enthusiastic and might set up less than 10 metres from the waterline.

Kebbin ... praps you haven't read the information stated very clearly by G-MW and quoted here ... there is NO repeat NO enforcement of any distance from the waterline.

There are NO camping restrictions. The contents of the by-law are NOT enforced at Greens Lake and there is no intention, plan or desire by G-WM to enforce them at Green Lake.

As one who has camped at Greens Lake many times over the past six years, sometimes for extended periods, I am confident in my comments about the actions of 'travellers' as distinct from the actions of those who use the facility only on public holidays ... and interestingly, so do G-WM.

I agree with John with his confidence in his comments re "travellers" and "holiday makers" - having camped many, many times at Greens over six years I have seen the place after a long weekend (and during) or Christmas/New Year/Easter - the mess that is left is just one of the problems - there is always a skip bin - sometimes two, for rubbish, but when the hordes leave the stuff left behind is phenomenal. Lounge suites, gazebos, camping chairs, tents - and the list goes on - there was a breadmaker found in there once - fully operational!

The mixture of being on holiday combined with alcohol and the sun often brings out the worst in people - which is why Greens is now closed at New Year. G-WM and the Police recognise this, and acted accordingly with the closure seen as the best way to solve the problem.
