What a ship!

Gday All.The wife and I have just tried a small adventure .We Climbed aboard the Queen Mary 2 at Melbourne last week for a 4 day /night journey to Kangaroo Island and back. The ship is quite magnificent and you feel a bit overwhelmed upon arrival .This was further advanced when we were told that we had been upgraded from our "sheltered balcony" cabin to a stateroom on the very top floor and cabin number 5 of 1300 cabins ! Opening the door of the stateroom we were greeted by a valet holding a tray with champagne, 2 glasses and a large glass of strawberries !

I would estimate the average to be 72 ishand we saw no kids at all and very few folk under 50.We had a cuppa with a british lady whom had been on the ship for 6 months { I did the math and thats about $150.000 in my language !} The staff ,meals and general service was outstanding ,at dinner every wedgwood plate has the gold Cunard emblem facing to the centre of the table and every they bought a Corona beer [Only $5.75] they placed it on the table and always twisted it around so the front to the stubby faced me. One does not wear shorts after 6 pm.men are reqd to wear a jacket in the dining room each evening and on formal nights its a tuxedo or suit [ I chose the former ].We watched a different movie at the theatre each night and saw 3 live shows too.At 3.30 daily you can have High Tea in the queens room  [it holds 1000 people ]once you are all seated the staff prade out from each side of the stage with teapots galore and deal them out ,cucmuber  ,chicken, ham, cheese etc no crust sangos are dealt fo 10 mins ish. This is then followed by scones ,cream and tiny jars of jam .Finally the vast choice of cakes take place. We could only do it once otherwise my belt would not fit anymore ! They have a huge library and loads of places to sit and play chess ,jig saws ,cards you name it.

I can see why Kangaroo Island is so popular, lots of places to visit too ,but that will be a caravan trip. The ship trip was most enjoyable and the 4 days is what we could afford and we will retain fond memories .Cheers John

I went on the Queen Mary 1 when it used to be docked in LA California. Whole different kettle of fish to the new one.

Cheers, John.

We did a cruise on the QM2 in 2012 Fremantle to Sydney. We thought it was a fantastic ship being our First Cruise and met a couple on there from Adelaide who had travelled from Adelaide to Fremantle on the Arcadia which they said was Fun Ship. They hated the QM2 and couldn't wait to get off. We loved it but since then have done Voyager of the Seas and Ovation of Seas and they leave the QM2 for dead.
