Just got an email from the NAB telling me I have mail. Just log onto the NAB site. To get to the letter I have to go through at least 7 steps. Just asked them why they don't just send me the email and don't waste my time.
Having fights on several fronts with NAB at the moment. Like Telstra a bit. All run from off-shore so when you complain about off-shore in-competence or query something it goes back off-shore to be handled with the same scripted useless reply from a person on the adjacent desk who claims to be a higher "ranked" customer service consultant.
No link in the NAB mail itself. It's a genuine email from NAB. Just wonder why they send me an email to tell me I have mail. However, your reply has got me thinking that by logging onto NAB directly to read the mail, I am sure the one on their website is definitely genuine.
Years ago my finances were simple, requiring a few minutes half yearly or yearly with the cheque book, envelopes and stamps.
But I now involuntarily do the data entry and bookkeeping for all manner of outfits, government and private, with the direct deductions driving me to distraction. Then there is the deliberate muddying of the waters by that lot to ensure that no-one but an accountant and 'in the know' could ever make an informed choice. Add to that the (personal) data mining that goes on. -Speaking of which, I just completed a lengthy questionnaire for a hospital day surgery that required me to repeat the same information over and over. But I have already given them the same information before and only the operation is different.
I am damned tired of the records I am required to keep for government. The feds are THE worst. They already have the information in most cases.
I have had several emails of this ilk in recent weeks.
From places like ConBank, Barklays in UK, and sundry others who I have not ever had an account with!
I filter my emails through MailWasher, a NZ product, that allows me to see the first couple lines of an email, (with all links resolved to their actual address), the actual sender's email address, and the address they sent it to.
From these things, I can determine whether I want/need to read the email, and if not, I can delete the email at the server without downloading any of it to my computer. (Not associated with them in any way except as a very happy customer)

Agree with Mail Washer...have used it for years and reduced the amount of spam I used to receive to about 0.5%.
Sometimes I can go for a week without spam mail, as Mailwasher keeps sending all the crap back to them.
Good thing is you can opt to "BLACKLIST and "BOUNCE" the crap emails back to the arsewholes that sent it to you...and they hate that !!!! and if they try and send more...Mailwasher automatically blocks them and bounces the emails back....they stop sending after a while.
RustyD, email is inherently insafe for personal information and has not real privacy. Most emails are sent in plain text and unencrypted. Your NAB app/website will be secure (assuming your computer/phone is secure) so mail from NAB with personal info (like account details etc ) is much, much safer than email. Presumably access to mail messages will be quicker and easier once you start to use that facility. That is certainly the case with my own bank.

Agree to an extent. I do get emails telling me my statement is ready and others messages that are specific to my accounts like Term Deposit maturing. However the emails about mail on the bank's website that I have to troll through are just general notices with no personal details. I'd rather general notices in the email than go thru 7 steps to find the general notice.

Problem with the "bounce" option is that it almost invariably goes back to some poor sucker whose email addy has been "assumed" by the spammers. The "real" spammers almost never see the results unless you click on their links and become their next victim.
Apart from that, you are correct!
