A while back I bought a high-ish resolution video camera and, of course, once I did that I discovered all the other (expensive) things I needed to buy to "make the best use of it" - gadget creep.
Anyway: one thing you really do need with video is a way to edit it and I've spent the past year trying different video editors (I'm an engineer not an artistic type). They have all been OK but fiddly, complicated and often frustrating... however... I recently downloaded DaVinci Resolve:
Double bloody Wow! I have written a lot of complicated real-time software over these past decades and I am amazed by the sophistication of this programme!
After about four hours practice and a Youtube training video I'm doing all sorts of things with video I thought only professionals could do (although no doubt they do it better than me :) ).

This software is a thousand time more capable than I'll ever be able to appreciate but it does need some hours of study before one is able to make even amateur use of it. Additionally it is an 800MB download and requires a capable modern computer - high end i5+ with 8GB RAM, a fast hard drive and ideally two monitors. It is free of charge - there is a paid version but that's aimed at professionals.
Don't download this thinking you'll be up and running in 30 minutes - you won't. But if you are prepared to put in a few hours of study I suspect this is all the video editing most of us will ever need.

Thanks for the information and your views Mike Harding.
My husband is seriously considering getting a drone and he may find this editor useful. He has looked at some other editors and he doesn't like them.
I will show him this program.
I have lots & lots of mainly terrible videos documenting much of my early travels in the van & overseas. But there is some gold stuff amongst the dross.
After trying a range of Video Editing software, I only ended up with a headache.
On your recommendation I'll give this one a try.
It'd be great to sit back & enjoy the good stuff in my dotage.
ps. I've tried unsuccessfully many times to convert my VHS tapes onto either HDD or DVDs. Any ideas there?

I have found a way without having to have a very powerful pc. One of my few capabilities is doing media jobs for people. I can operate the gear from my lounge chair with a couple of remotes.
Eril found this advert in a magazine but I have not had the time to research it as yet.
