I just had a call from Munjibah (I think) from Telstra. He said he was calling about my computer. Normally, I let them ramble on a bit, thinking they have hooked a big one here and then tell them (not so politely) to leave me alone. This time I was a bit busy, and when he mentioned computer, I immediately, in my most terrible Indian accent, said "Oh my bloody goodness". Immediate beep beep beep.... That made my day.
I had a woman ring last week from the Phillipines, I think, regarding my internet/phone being cut off. I initially hung up but she persevered and called back insisting to speak to me. I was a little bit abrupt and hung up. She rang a third time demanding why I hung up and insisted talking to me as this was genuine, I asked her what part of f**k off she did not understand. She has not rung back. As I understand it the Do Not Call Regisar does no work for overseas scam calls.

Ah ha, I updated our Do Not Call Regisar a month of more ago and was going to chase them up as to how long it takes to come into effect. Maybe this is why.

Yep, we had one of these last couple days.
+1 answered, and when told that Telstra would cut off our landline if we didn't let her look at the files on pour computer, asked the caller "Why would you want to do that?" Answer was "So we can show you the bad files that have originated from our computers." +1's response was "Just Go Away!" and hangup.
Best answer of all - unless you are comfortable telling some random female caller to F... Off! (which I wouldn't have a problem with, in fact!)

No it doesn't, you need to get in touch with Telstra "Unwelcome calls dept' they can bar all overseas calls to your phones if you want and no charge.
Have a look here for more info: www.telstra.com.au/consumer-advice/unwelcome-calls/contact-us
We have had it for a few years now and get no calls from overseas and very few from australian numbers.
hope that helps

Would be a problem here - No 1 son is in USA (he doesn't call but his wife does!)
No 1 daughter is in Chile.
Not gonna change the potential for them to ring.

It's got me beat why the government cant do something about it. These calls are so prolific why cant they be traced with the help of the Indian government and shut them down. I got a call recently and I let him waste his time and in the end I said " I haven't got a computer" he replied "You've just f***ed yourself" and for several days we got the calls. On another occasion I said to the lady "Why are you scamming me" she replied "because I am scamming you" Some of them get quite insistent and they are not all saying they are from the Telstra technical department there are others that talk about you having been involved in a car accident. With so many calls being outsourced to India you need to listen to some of them to make sure they are not legit.

To err is human but to really mess things up, you need a computer.
I would not be over the top aggressive with them, they Can probably hammer you with get even calls, this was done to us a few years ago,our current stratergy is to tell them that Iam hard at hearing ,and Iam in a nursing home...
Hi Santa,
We have done the same. That took care of the nuisance calls.
A former acquaintance had a good solution though. Hed tell them that he was a bit busy and if they gave him their number, he would call them back when he had time. Not one of them ever gave him their number!
Cheers
Dave
