Can anyone think of a worse way to leave this world....
California wildfire death toll rises to 48 as authorities continue search of ruined Paradise....
Being an ex-firie, I have experienced so pretty close calls while fighting Bushfires,
Many of the fires had a very intense heat generation which made me think..... what it would be like to be caught in one of these fires with no way out, it's hard to imagine being slowly burnt to death, the agony which many of these poor people must have suffered would have been terrific.
I still maintain these thoughts regarding bushfires....
1/ do as directed by the Authorities without question,
2/ don't try and be a hero by stopping and trying to defend your property,
3/ get right out of danger straight away, leave the firefighting to those who know how.
Just remember... places and properties can be replaced.... "YOU CAN-NOT"
I have been retired from a full time firefighter for 16 years and have left it all behind me , But often think of the day I got trap in a large bush fire when a wind change traped me when I went to top of a ridge to survey the extent of the fire ground , The two things that save me was the fact thae I was wearing full protection turnout gear with wool fire tunic and that I spotted a large rock which I shelted against on the oppossite side from which the fire front was coming from . I was very luckly and cannot think how these poor people felt I only hope that they died from smoke inhalation and not from burns .
I have been following it a little, this morning read 6400 homes destroyed. Just hard to get ones head around those sorts of numbers, and of course the loss of life and livestock.
I have also been following this tragedy
I can only hope that those who are still missing, are found alive
As a young and fit man, I was assisting to fight a bushfire
The wind changed and we were engulfed by smoke, which was not a pleasant feeling, when you are gasping for breath
Lucky we had put enough water down, to save the small town sewerage plant, so we knew that come what may, we were safe from the main flames
Paradise was wiped out. It was reported that 25,000 people lived there. That's just slightly larger than Goulburn NSW. Can you imagine a city the size of Goulburn being wiped out?

Yes, for sure Jim, I just did not want to put a too negative spin on it.
Links seem to be random and not just on this forum. Sometimes they work, other times they don't. Haven't figured it out yet. However I use notepad (Apple) to convert it and give a title (like rockylizard does).
