LLD its really noticeable for us since they placed a deposit on cans just how empty our recycling bin has become. The other positive is that Lake Macquarie council supplies all households with bio degradable kitchen tidy bags so that all of your food scraps now go into the garden waste bin.
The system is -
Red Bin - landfill (fortnightly) council landfill site
Yellow Bin - recycling (fortnightly) recycling centre
Green Bin - garden waste, food scraps (weekly) turned into compost for use on council reserves.
They also do curb side pickups a few times a year for larger items like building waste, electrical appliances, old furniture, mattresses, etc. and a couple of times a year they set up a toxic waste collection point so you can drop off any old paint, chemicals, batteries etc.
They have really come a long way since just burying everybody's garbage in landfill sites.
Cheers

No deposit on cans in Vic yet. Changing to the system above is being debated. We still do Red/Dark Green weekly, Yellow and Bright Green alternate weeks.
Our local transfer station takes lots of stuff for free - toxic stuff, electric goods, white goods. No kerbside pickup for larger items here. Just 2 free vouchers per year for the transfer station.
I dissemble lots of stuff (big shed - ya never knows when something may come in handy) and make sure what's leftover goes in Red or Yellow bin.
