Clean Van

Gday ,Our daughter has sold her mobile home in Moama but still retains the site till Easter .Since all her mates are still near her she asked me if I could put our van on the site for 14 days so she could use it as a base to visit and stay overnight etc .We reluctantly said yes as we never stay more than a few days any where cause we love to travel.

The site is heavily treed so birds would be a problem .I polish my van each year after our winter trip away and prior to putting it into hibernation in its garage so the van would be OK but I was worried about the awning.Anyhow I picked it up today and came home and boy was the awning a mess !

I hosed the whole van and unrolled the awning and placed it at a 45 deg angle for easy access.I then sprayed everything with a 10 to 1 mix of CT 18 using my spray gun set for "splatter " I then had a cuppa and returned in 10 mins later .

I got the Gerni out and away I went ! I got no closer than 50cms and the spray was set at medium ,well fair dinkum ,it was sooo easy I cleaned the entire van and awning in less than 10 mins from the roof to chassis ,the bird poo just blew off too.  To say I was surprised was an understatement !

An hour later after a chamois job and Vuplex on all the windows and the entire top of the awning it was back in its garage.

I used to use the CT18 on our Harleys after a major camping trip to the top of OZ or up the centre etc. Driving thru cattle dung constantly is a bugger to get off chrome after a week of setting in and I always found the truck wash ideal and no damage to paint etc .  Any just thought I would pass this on as frankly when I saw my awning upon arrival at the park I was not real happy ! But all is good Cheers  Westy

I used CT20 which has a wax in it on my previous van and sometimes on the wife's car. Instructions say not to leave on too long prior hosing off.

I'll  also go along with Littledick.

CT 18 is very acidic and you should never leave it on for longer than ten mins. My mate also left some in his garden spray bottle he used to apply to his bus.  He was called away for half an hour and when he used the Gerni to hose off he ended up with streaky paint where it had eaten into the paint.

He also found when he tried to pump up the sprayer it disintegrated where the CT 18 had eaten away the plastic. Caustic or acidic it's pretty harsh stuff.

He changed to the CT20 with the wax and makes sure he hoses off asap before it has any chance to damage the paint any more.
