We used a dishwasher tablet , just damp, use like a pencil rubber, cold oven, keep working around, wipe off grunge,Voila. ( finish brand with red centre ball) . No smell either. Gloves of course.

White vinegar works well & is cheap, you do need to be patient, but you do avoid breathing in the corrosive lung health issues.
Vinegar also works well in drains & also for cleaning up drain grates to look new if left in a container overnight.
Also great for removing calcium build up from kettles in high calcium water areas.
