The "blaming" generation

Prepare yourselves. Grey nomads are I assume, baby boomers give or take. We, according to some of the younger generation say 18-25yo are to blame for ruining their lives by...yep you guessed it, ruining the planet.

We are according to these people, the selfish, materialistic and "had it easy" generation.

I've come across this attitude 3 times now on Facebook. I enjoy FB, for a variety of reasons but it does risk friends of my friends reading what they dont like...and comment accordingly.

This thread is not about facebook, lets leave that alone here. It is about being blamed for being born in a certain era and as an individual being blamed for the state of the planet.

Furthermore, when prompted by one 22yo about my contribution towards our country (I didnt know she meant in terms of climate change) I answered that I'd joined the RAAF at 17yo. Then came the abuse- "so you bombed people, how can that be honourable "?

To show maturity I didnt reply, there is no benefit in doing so. I was tempted to say "if we didnt have a defence force we'd be speaking Japanese, or English soldiers would be doing the goose step".

These are the people that try to ruin Anzac Day. Thankfully they are still in the minority.

Tony

Tony. I made some comments just prior to Australia Day. I'm positive that many of the GN's comments were written without really reading, and understanding my posts.

To call a whole generation 'the blaming generation' based on a few fb posts is as bad as saying all baby boomers are selfish and materialistic. There are all types of people, kind, selfish, polite, grumpy, in all generations, including the younger ones.

RE: The "blaming" generation

Gday...

I understand your thoughts, Tony, and have seem and heard these statements from various folk from various age groups from time to time.

Interestingly though, if one reads through many posted replies/comments to some recent topics on this and other fora, 'baby boomer/grey nomads' could also be included in a "blaming" generation.

Unfortunately, it seems to be increasingly the way of our modern society. Whatever goes wrong there is always someone else to blame rather than even oneself.

Not sure if this is the quote that you meant

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Dunno Hewey, I wasn't there at the time - but I am sure the meaning must be about the same.

Dont Faceplant or any of those other proponents of Globohomo. You waste youre time with this filth then you winge what you don't like the content. Same applies to the Lugenpresse in its entirety. The question provides its own answer.

Back in the 60s and 70s we used to blame previous generations for lots of things, I think they used to refer to it as the protest era ....then most of us grew up biggrinbiggrin

These sorts of discussions are evidence that you all are being gaslight by a very select and prominent group of agitprop operators. These people are Paper Tigers. Destroy your Televisions and beware the Lugenpresse. They pit race against race. Generation against generation. They propose idiotic "normative social mores that are ridicuous and far from universally respected. Yet it is on the MSM so it must be the truth ... you are being played"

rockylizard...absolutely impossible. It is your decision to admit to how much of the Globohomo adgenda you pretend does or does not exist. You cannot pretend it is incomprehensible therefore non existant to you. See Fluff run .. Run Fluff Run..

Gday...

confuse Hanna, I must be from another planet cry What is a Globohomo agenda (I can't pretend it exists or does not exist if I don't know what it is hmm) and what's fluff got to do with it? confuse

What is gaslight (apart from the old fashioned way to light our streets 100 years ago), what are agitprop operators, paper tigers, Lugenpress, what is MSN (Micrcroft Service Network?).

Definitely none of that is Strayan English - well not my Strayan English. hmm

Cheers - John

Sad response, Hanna. Only confirms that you are pushing gooblegook and prefer to remain incomprehensible.

My question/s are valid and not loaded ... WTF are you on about??? confuse confuse Or perhaps, more importantly, what are you on? cry

Most of those non-Strayan terms have made it into the Oxford Dictionary, although I admit that globohomo and Luegenpresse were unfamiliar to me. That said, both terms are very appropriate and descriptive of the present geopolitical climate. No doubt they'll find their way into the Oxford dictionary one day soon.

Any person relying on non-colloquial verbiage to insinuate a point is talking through their ar5e. If they then won't (or can't) explain their position on any matter, their opinion is worthless.

I see David Attenborough has said , It's OK to blame older generations , for " Doing Terrible Things " concerning Climate Change . I was a bit surprised , I don't reckon he thought that one through enough .

I believe the younger generation saying we caused the problem is a bit simplistic. There's a certain amount of truth in it of course. We did.
Just like the hole in the ozone layer. That was caused by the gases being used in arousal cans at the time and we definitely used those cans. But once the results of that was made public I remember a fairly widespread boycotting of any arousals until science came up with a safe alternative.

So, yes. We were a party to the problem. The issue now is, are they happy to say not my problem. I didnt cause it? Or are they going to be a vehicle for change. Theirs and our choice.

Gday...

Hanna, perhaps I could offer the following -

Effective communication is defined as verbal speech or other methods of relaying information that get a point across. ... An example of effective communication is when the person who you are talking to listens actively, absorbs your point and understands it.

If that were so, and the accepted norm, perhaps you would express this in a way that I, and perhaps others, can understand your contribution to the thread -

"These sorts of discussions are evidence that you all are being gaslight by a very select and prominent group of agitprop operators. These people are Paper Tigers. Destroy your Televisions and beware the Lugenpresse. They pit race against race. Generation against generation. They propose idiotic "normative social mores that are ridiculous and far from universally respected. Yet it is on the MSM so it must be the truth ... you are being played""

Rocky give up mate, there are some people that will never make sense. Put it down to a good old fashioned bit of stirring. The best way to deal with some posts is to totally ignore them thus robbing them of their moment in the Sun.
