A visit to the Van.

Yesterday I decided to make a trip to our van which is parked out the front of our house.

I was just wanting to experience and re jog my memory of van travel. I decided to lay on the bed and finish a puzzle which was still in the van.

We have 4 queen beds  3 in the home and the van bed. The van bed has the foam convoluted cover lay mattress  ( we call it eggs Shell). It is by far the best sleep mate one can have.

But the van is still there and if it could talk, it would like to be out in Western Queensland among the gum trees.

As they say... Thanks for the memories.

Looks more like egg carton than egg shell Jay&Dee.

Then again, it's green. Could belong to little green aliens from Mars.

They have landed you know. They are taking over our bodies slowly.

know that feeling too at the moment - as soon as the travel ban is over we'll be outa here. A bit soon to packing the van though me thinks. And I guess many people would be happy to be isolated in Lakes Entrance as we are.

Same here. The roads will be clogged up with vans once the light turns green.

Jay&Dee, on a side note. What is that type of mattress like? Must be heaps lighter than a standard one. Would save a fair bit of weight in the van.

G'day Old Bloke, but can I call you mate.

For the exercise let's call the green item a topper.

No mate, that is just a mattress topper type of product. It is only about 7 cm thick, but boy does it give you a great night sleep. We purchased ours somewhere down in Victoria.

Our van mattress is excellent with out the topper or what ever. the end of the van mattress is rounded on the corners.   Soooo  we placed the topper in position on top of the bed and I used a marking pen to draw a line on the bottom of the topper.

Then using an electric cutting knife we proceeded to cut the topper to fit.

Used the left over topper for sponges etc etc.

This link is what I am talking about. Great investment.

hope this helps, mate

We specified an innerspring mattress when we had our van built in 1999.

A good mattress but on our first trip .. to Hervey Bay .. we decided that it was too hard.  We were used to our then water bed at home.

So off we went to the local Pillow Talk or whatever & got one of those toppers that we cut to size.

Fantastic ... Still have the same mattress & topper after 20 years.   Always use mattress protectors & have gone through a few of them.

(The waterbed though, has been replaced with a Latex monster)
