Hi BB couldn,t help having a bit of a skite!!!! Don't know about the Broncos though, those lads are a whole new ball game! By the way I also enjoy a good game of rugger especially when the Storm are on the field.

Sorry mate that was just my idea of a joke, the Broncos have been copping it from everywhere lately, losing is something that they don't do that well up there so the cats beating them would have really been the final straw. You shouldn't refer to NRL as rugger thats more that other rugby game that they play in private schools the Storm play the blue collar version..
BB I stand corrected and humbly beg for your forgiveness!!!!!!!! Although I enjoy watching the game the finer points of the rules are totally foreign to me. Have a nice day, (if there is such a thing these days)

Hey knock it off. I've been a bear's supporter since they started. And had the last laugh on everyone in the early 2000's. Now the bears, yes I know, lions are about to ROAR again.
Magnarc I have been watching and playing RL for over 60 years and the interpretation of the rules by some officials is still sometimes foreign to me. I also enjoy watching the odd game of your code but only when the Swans are going well, I've actually been following this argument about where they should hold the AFL grand final this year if it can't be in Melbourne. IMHO holding it in either Sydney or Brisbane may be great for the people in those cities who follow the game but it probably wont gain anymore support for the code. I reckon that the AFL should give the opportunity to supporters who live and breathe the game and would love it to be played in their cities i.e. Perth or Adelaide. I'm sure that either NSW or QLD will jump on the opportunity if it's offered but wouldn't the supporters in AFL stongholds be as annoyed as we are when they move our State of Origin games out of Sydney or Brisbane.
Cheers
BB

BB Yep I have no problem with semi and qualifying games being played in the west or in Sydney they are entitled to a share of the spoils, BUT the Grand Final and the MCG are like Siamese twins who should never, ever be separated, apart from the fact that the G is the largest stadium, (more people more dough for the AFL) it is sacred ground to all Victorians, after all, the game originated here did it not?. Play as many games as you like wherever you like, but not the Grand Final. I realise that we will more than likely lose it this year, as to who gets it I think that Sydney appear to be favourites at the moment.
Btw BB I played one game of Rugby as a schoolboy. Got two teeth knocked out and more bruises that I can remember and spent most of the time wandering about in a daze, needless to say that was the first and only attempt at Rugby. I do like watching it however and admire those guys for their prowess, stamina and their ability to give an opponent a good roughing up on the blind side of the ref!!!!

Magnarc Newcastle also has a pretty long history of playing Australian Football the first clubs were formed here by goldminers from Ballarat in 1883 when they moved to the coal fields for work. Sides from South Melbourne, Port Melbourne and Fitzroy all visited and played combined sides in the 1880s, Wallsend Plattsburgh actualy beat Fitzroy by a goal in 1889. Look up the history of the Black Diamond Cup you may be surprised.
We live and learn BB. Thanks for that info. I had never heard of the Black Diamond cup but, when you come to think of it of course those miners would have taken the game up there when they moved. I never cease to be amazed at the knowledge that abounds on this forum.

Magnarc some more trivia for you - a lot of the of coal miners migrated here from the coalfields of northern England so we also have a long history in both soccer and rugby. Newcastle was a foundation club in the first rugby league competition in 1908 and 1909 but due to the time it took to travel down to Sydney on a steam train they decided it was easier to start a competition up this way. We may be classed as a rugby league stronghold but a lot of Novacastrians will get just as much enjoyment watching the A League (Jets) or Isaac Heeney (local boy) run around with the swans.

BB
Huge Dragons fan here. Been following them for 55 years since my boarding school days. Seen then thru the glory years and the not so glory years. Almost cried like a bub when we sold our soul in 1999.
I absolutely can't believe that anybody even remotely cares about the AFL season this year.
It bears no relationship to reality
Your team not going so well Pete?
Like most if not all professional sport being played at present, it has been messed around for commercial interests for years, and this year is no exception. It does at least make some sort of break and return towards the old normal.
Cricket, NRL and other sports have all suffered changes for the time being to try and fit the new world.

Hey BB, poor bloody Isaac, what a terrible waste of a season for him. The amount of these injuries though, must be a flaw in training or lack of proper boots.
