ISTM that the ABC journalist believes that "white" means "Anglo-Celtic". Maybe he should have a closer look at his colleagues.
A landmark study of television news and current affairs has found that presenters, commentators and reporters on Australian television are overwhelmingly of an Anglo-Celtic background.
In terms of the number of appearances during the survey period, almost 76 per cent of those on Australian screens were found to have an Anglo-Celtic background.
Just 6 per cent were from an Indigenous or non-European background, despite the fact that these groups account for about a quarter of the Australian population.
The other 18 per cent was made up of those with a European background other than Anglo-Celtic.

dDorian, you have too much spare time, but my brief read is that these people have far too much time and are **** stirring. Maybe the quality of many supposed news/current affairs programs would be a better target. Also the " speed reading of every event" so they can rush to the next ad break, ABC included. One exception is the new Irish lady who does sport for ABC on the weekend. A bit like listening to paint dry, or treacle drip.
Be careful, look what happens here, Cindy will give you "The Look". www.bing.com/videos/search%22the+look%22+tim+allen&&view=detail&mid=3EAAE138DAF35893A60E3EAAE138DAF35893A
Quite frankly I have found that most Australians are very accepting of our multicultural society. I have worked with people from a variety of racial backgrounds from indigenous to Asian to middle eastern and all different beliefs and have rarely seen any racist behaviour or comment from anyone. Certainly there are racial bigots in this country with some extreme views but much of this so called racism is stirred up by the media and special interest groups who are not representative of the majority of Australians.
This sounds like another beat up. Can't find something to write about so we will pull the old race card trick. Always guaranteed to get some attention.
It's like the old saying, " Nationalism is the last bastion of the crooked politician "

Well said Greg.
I have travelled this world extensively and have no doubt Australia is the least racist country I've visited or lived in, despite what some malcontents would wish us to believe.
If you want see endemic racism visit a middle eastern Arab country.

The ABC journo reported on a study which showed that the cultural backgrounds of news presenters were skewed toward Anglo-Celtic, yet the journo ironically headlined his report in a way which suggested that he himself had an Anglocentric bias. That's all that I meant to say.
As for the absence of Asians and other non-Europeans at the news desk, I would think that this may have cultural explanations of its own. At the risk of being accused of stereotyping, it seems to me that Asian career choices are skewed toward STEM rather than the humanities, which would mean that there would be less applicants for these positions.
