Welcome to Nomads

I was thinking about what would happen if... the Govt finally got all the states to open their borders.  Would we be welcomed as travellers to other states?  I'm thinking No.

Probably best to wait a while.

Morning Mel.

I think you might be right.

I made the choice to stay put when things settled a little after the first wave here in VIC. So glad I did too as a second wave hit and turned out to be a tidal wave. When things start to get back to, well, 'normal' I am still staying put for a while longer. I'm in NTH East VIC safe and like the area so no complaints from me.

Keep Safe out there.

Well, as you know Doug I'm in Canberra and the best I can say is I am cold and safe. (so far)

Surprisingly, it hasn't been too bad here. Just a couple of frosts. No hoses getting frozen or such things. Few below freezing and none -7 as is usual. or maybe I haven't noticed as am a fairly late riser. But has been overcast and freezing wind blowing.

However, surely this can't go on till next May, when I will really want to hit the road north. One winter in Canberra in 10yrs is quite enough. Agree NTH East Vic is a great place to get stuck. May travel NSW over summer if no bushfires like last year and they will let me back into ACT.

Certainly, while we travelled around SA for 5 weeks recently, we got a warm welcome everywhere, but that was as South Australians ourselves.

Sadly, from what I have seen at times in this place and others like it, I think it will be a long time before interstate travellers will be welcomed with open arms outside of their own states.

It is sad to see how quickly things went downhill from all in it together and all being Australian, to everyone for themselves, and being very parochial to our own state.

I guess we will just have to wait and see, but we wont be rushing over a border just yet.

I still think I have a bit of SA in me. Lived there for 17yrs. and still own property there( Looking to sell it.  Waterfront block of land at Blanchetown). Ahhh. I must be multi-national or perhaps a true nomad. Born in Vic, grew up in NSW,had kids in SA, spent last 10yrs six months in QLD and 6months home, did the big lap and down the centre and up to Darwin and retired in ACT. Have rellos in all states except Tassie. Tassie I spent a lot of time there with work so have a few friends there.

Hi msg

I agree with your opinion of

I'm thinking No. Probably best to wait a while.

The main reason behind my opinion, is that, it will be very inconvenient, for a person in a rural situation, who has to go to a city for Covid-19 health reasons

The latest news update (today) is as follows

Quote
Ninety per cent of Victoria's current coronavirus cases can be traced back to a family of four that returned to Australia and stayed in Melbourne's Rydges on Swanston hotel

There have been 552 coronavirus cases in NSW since an infected patron walked into the Crossroads Hotel last month
Unquote

Both stories are in the same media update, in the link below

We can not really blame any rural locals, for being very suspicious of travellers, as unfortunately they can not pick, the irresponsible ones, so we are therefore all tarred with the same brush

Hopefully normal times, will come along, sooner rather than later
