The reality of Covid 19

When this virus took hold back in March, I thought it would be  a rough six months. It is obvious now that it is going to be around for a long time in some form or another.

Our hope has been on getting a vaccine. Sure, Russia and China have said they have proven vaccines but do you trust them? Time will tell.

If we do get a vaccine, will it be like the flu vaccine....good for six months until the virus mutates and the no longer effective.

So where does that leave us. Not in a very good position I think.

What will the economy look like? A permanent shut down of some degree? Mass unemployment for years to come?

Borders either closed or restricted to some degree?

I'm in country Victoria, so maybe my view is a bit skewed or pessimistic....but I think it's a definite possability that the world has been irrovercably changed.

And not for the better. At the moment I see hard to get back to the world we once enjoyed.

Collo.

Hi Collo

I have been trying to follow Covid-19, since I first heard of lockdowns

In all honesty, I do not think that anyone, knows exactly what will happen

The goalposts, seem to be changing very rapidly, in Australia and other countries

We saw how certain leaders, promoted certain drugs, which we now know do not work

The main medical stance seems to be, (if I have interpreted what I read correctly), that we should not rush the vaccines, until proper trials, just in case there is long term medical problems

I have read that a vaccine will work for two months, (6 a year)

I have also read that a vaccine will work for twelve months, so I suppose that only time will tell, who is right, and who is wrong

I am very confident, that things will get back to some sort of normal, sometime in the future, but I don't know when

I think that a lot of damage has already been done, to the economy of a lot of countries, with probably more pain to come

I seem to think that Australia is in a far better position, that a lot of other countries

It is a pity (in my opinion), that we did not go hard and fast lockdowns, like Taiwan and New Zealand

I think that history will say, that trying to suppress/slow down Covid-19 did not work, due to some (and not that many) irresponsible people, unknowingly spreading it

Anyway I will always keep positive, my prediction is that one way or another, mankind will beat this virus

There has never been a vaccine for a covid virus. If we assume there is one this time then when will it be available? Then will it be mandatory to be vaccinated? If not the virus will be around for a long long time. So do we hide under the doona for ever? Or do we learn to live with it? Elimination strategy is flawed. We need to be learning how to protect the vulnerable and allowing some form of normality in our lives. If not the Indians will get restless and all hell could break loose.

It looks like a vaccine will be available to the public around the end of this year which, I suppose, could easily be delayed another 6 to 12 months but it seems to me that is our only serious hope of really defeating the damn thing.

China if definitely now off my Christmas card list.

Mike a vaccine, if available, will only work if it's compulsory. Otherwise there will be folks running around continuing to spread the virus. You cant force anyone to be vaccinated.

A vaccine doesn't need to be compulsory to protect a country like Australia. The Feds could simply rule a quarantine is required if unvaccinated for x days prior to entry. I seriously doubt human safety trials will be completed before the end of the year and that's assuming a possible vaccine even exists before 2021.

Flu shots don't stop many folks getting the flu each year. My point is simply a matter of not relying on a vaccine as the silver bullet. Hotels have shown that it only takes one person to spread the virus.

Flu vaccines change each year. It's a case of best guess by scientists which vaccine will be released and used because flu vaccines are best used prior to flu season and prior to medical knowledge of which flu will predominate. That's why we see some years with higher rates of flu infections and also why we need a new flu shot each year. A Covid-19 vaccine won't work with everyone, that's a given but it still doesn't require 100% of the population to be vaccinated. In a post Covid-19 vaccine world, if your entry to this country is restricted unless you are vaccinated, we simply won't see large numbers of unvaccinated people being forced into quarantine. In fact, it's probable you won't be issued a visa. There's nothing new about this as it's standard practice for entry into Australia from countries where particular diseases are prevalent and there are plenty of those.

Australia is going to join AstraZeneca , well if you get some complication, AstraZeneca to be exempt from coronavirus vaccine liability claims in most countries. cheers

A most yucky extension to the Family of Four story in quarantine this morning. The children smeared fa...s on the hotel walls, and were then taken outside while poor cleaners had to clean. Restart the spread.

To say there will never be a vaccine is pessimistic in the extreme. If we can put men on the moon, go from never flying to producing aircraft that fly at mach 3 in less than a century then anything is possible. It just takes time. I am optimistic about the future. It may be that it will look somewhat different to what we were used to and we may very well need to get used to the new reality. We don't know yet, but life is too short as it is for me to worry about things I cannot control. If a vaccine becomes available I will be lining up regardless how often I might have to have boosters. It's not a big deal.
