I wonder why this media beat up is all directed at Queensland?
Is it not the same rules for WA SA NT and I am not sure about Tas but a good guess will say it is.
While my heart aches for those that are affected by these rules these same rules are in place to protect us all.
I agree that saying only one child can visit borders on the ridiculous.
There has not been enough thought by Qld Govt representatives before commenting and maybe some planning by the guardian of the children concerned might have gone a long way to providing a visit for them.
Reading between the lines it appears to me to be all about the cost rather than the actual isolation.
The cost associated with these excursions was originally free and isolation could be carried out in private homes but we all know how that turned out purely because some people have this self entitled attitude that they should not have to comply.
The reason that any visitor to a facility is asked to wear PPE is mainly to protect those patients who are quite vulnerable due to their respective illnesses.
Well dont get me started on Go Fund Me arrangements.
I might make a comment for anyone interested to check how this money was used in Townsville recently by a so called grieving mother of a child killed in a vehicle accident.
The media being what it is will not leave QLD alone as QLD by its very location will have more people wanting to cross the border.
This serves their hunger for sensationalism which in turn sells the page to anyone who wants to read their twisted stories.
A fool and their money are easily parted with both subscriptions to some of these so called news sources and with many of the Go Fund Me pages which work on the good nature and kindness of the people donating.
I hope that the children can get to see their father and it can be made as easy as possible but without putting anyone else at risk from those who wish to travel from a known hotspot into a safe and Covid free area.
I for one will not wish to go anywhere near QLD until next winter. Now, VIC with be one of the desired states to visit until then. Wonder if they will get the same badgering as QLD. Will Queenslanders be denied entry to the other states?
Lady my wife works with drove to Lismore from Brisbane last week for her mums funeral. She is not allowed to drive home. How stupid!
She now has to fly to sydney then fly to Brisbane and go into a gov appointed quarantine hotel for 2 weeks
She cant get her car back till either allowed to go get it or transport it back

Infinitely more Covid risk in 2 airports & on a plane than driving your own car.
A 5 year old could work that one out!
If it was possible drive it to the border. Get someone on the other side to throw a rope over, tie it to the car & tow it over & get a friend to drive it home for you & see then in 2 or 3 weeks time.
Our protest in all this stupidity is top stop spending money on anything unnecessary. We walk even more now to save money.

""Have our bloody governments lost all sense of humanity!?""
You can bet your bottom dollar that the Qld Government is doing more damage than the dreaded Co-vid 19.
Fancy that Medical Officer saying that the 400 AFL Celebrities and Good old Tom Hanks and his entourage is more important than the average citizen because they bring $$$$$$ to our State.
.
As the saying goes.
What is the difference between a Politician and a babies nappy.
A. They both need to be changed very regularly ...

Cold hearted? Don't know. Seems to me they are waiting for something and are determined to stick to the letter of the law, no matter what, no exceptions. Why?
This is the same regarding all the states and we have a Prime Minister who on the surface frowns and complains about his economy but does nothing? What is wrong with the economy? We've had those unemployment figures almost before. 1 or 2 percent shouldn't make things go from difficult to catastrophic. Why will it take years for the younger generation to pay back?
What is going on?
Certainly, if and when this is over we need to carefully look at the constitution and change it to allow for us to be one country with the same rules for all. If only to have one person ultimately accountable. But maybe that would not work. Too much power in the hands of one person.? Better the way it is?
I also think the Police in enforcing the rules are being a bit savage but then again, are Victorians particularly difficult? You never hear the complete story from the media just enough to support their point of view.

But there are exceptions and that has got my dander up. Same the world over though. Money can buy almost anything. Things will not change in qld until after the election. puppets
I for one will not wish to go anywhere near QLD until next winter. Now, VIC with be one of the desired states to visit until then. Wonder if they will get the same badgering as QLD. Will Queenslanders be denied entry to the other states?
If Qlders feel they need to continue with the ban on people entering their state (other than AFL officials or movie stars) why would they want to put themselves at risk by heading down this way ? We haven't had a positive covid test in northern NSW from Lake Macquarie to the Qld border or across to the SA border in more than 30 days so maybe we should be the ones throwing up our own barriers. Like you MSG I have no immediate desire to travel to Qld nor does it worry me if their border remains closed but as an Australian the hypocrisy and the lack of humanity shown at both state and federal levels during this crisis has often been disappointing.
In a report I read today the Qld premier suggested that the decisions on exemptions are not made by her and blamed the criticism about hardships caused as attempts to bully the state into reopening ....maybe people have just had enough of their lives being thrown into turmoil by mindless decisions made by unelected bureaucrats.
But that's the thing BB how bad is this crisis? Does it warrant the treatment of the citizens like this? or is it something else still to come? or is it a cover up. something about the belt and road collaboration? or is it worse. Is the B & R collaboration only small bickies with what they have really agreed to? Meanwhile, attention to these denial and exemptions takes the focus off what ever they are trying to hide? Its just something doesn't jell for me. Now we have food shortages and general assertions about Christmas and New Year being thrown out as another distraction (How can they say that in three months time how thing will be, unless they already know?) I think Scomo is a master marketeer. How that for a conspiraicy theory.

Yep, open up the borders. Be like France. 10,000 new cases in 24 hours. That's a record. and over 30,000 deaths so far and they are not the worst by a long shot. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-09-13/coronavirus-update-covid-19-worldwide-cases-nz-protests/12658566
Something doesn't gel to me either. There is a difference between the wholesale opening of borders vs. the compassionate, sensible, humanitarian exceptions that intelligent leaders should be able to make and control. That's the point. Why is it that no one seems able to finesse a controlled plan for real people in plight, whilst making exceptions only for the rich and famous? The hypocrisy has been mind boggling.

This is what makes me laugh ,border bashers conveniently leaving out details .the celebrities that have come into qld have all done there mandatory 14 days quarantine whereas the people wanting to get in on exemptions want to go straight out into the community and that just cant be allowed. Are the celebs doing there quarantine in comfort? YES But then so would all of you if you could afford it. Even the original celeb that everyone winged about Dani Minogue did her 14 day she had to agree to pay for the qld gov appointed 24 / 7 private security. No double standards here just media generated hysteria.
Can only hope , even the thread heading is political and inflammatory. Just more sooking from those who had to spend there winter down south .
If you cannot see any wrong in the situation I highlighted then I suspect our perceptions of humanity and compassion are so very, very different that we will never find common ground.

Of all the posts on this and similar topics, this is by far the most accurate and to the point.
Media Hysteria says it all.
A post with common sense and saying it as it truly is. Thanks outlaw40.

These are the realities of what's happening and there have been several such incidents.
Even though we may be furious and embarrassed by the antics of pollies and bureaucrats we shouldn't be defined by them, or ashamed of our home states. A true democracy is one where you can at least make it count at the ballot box. Indeed we are all Australian's first, best we don't forget that.

So now as I read it, it is the mother of the children that is causing the children not to be able to visit their dad.
I think we all note how the rest of mainstream media have chosen not to report this.
I bet this poor dad got a real fair hearing in the family court as well if their adjudication was necessary in the deterioration of the childrens parents relationship...
The media is a very dangerous source of information.
A bit more information has come to light. If I have interpreted the story correctly
It was not the Queensland Premier, but the Queensland's Chief Health Officer, Dr Jeannette Young, who makes the decisions on border exemptions
This lady, who has been the Queensland Chief Health Officer, for nearly 10 years, is now receiving death threats, while doing her job
I just hope that the police catch every single person, who has been sending her death threats
Quote from the article
President of the Australian Medical Association Queensland, Chris Perry, told Channel 9 the threats and public criticism were quite toxic.
Jeannette Young has now a couple of police outside her house who go with her everywhere, Dr Perry said.
He said Dr Young had been getting over 100 requests for exemptions per day, all of which she had been answering herself before she received extra staff to assist with her workload.
So she was working from 5:00am in the morning until 9:00pm or 10:00pm at night, it was quite hard work, Dr Perry said. It has been quite stressful and it hasn't been helped by cowardly people threatening to take the life of a woman.
