Hi everyone. Recently joined, my name is kelly. I not long ago bought a 1996 Avan Aliner. Absolutely love it. Now the original stickers are old and peeling and i wish to remove them and give the surface a new white paint job. Does anyone here have experience or advice about what kind of paint i use? cheers kel
Hi Kelly welcome,
If you want a really good finish you will need to take it to a professional Panelbeater and get a two pack paint job.
If you are going to attempt this yourself, it will require a lot of preparation, sanding, masking and priming just to get a reasonable job without any original details/decals left. Then you will need a signwriter to add some decals. This would best be done by spraying a quality auto paint. Stickers can be removed using a hot air gun or hair dryer and sharp scraper. Don't burn the existing paintwork or it will take a lot of work to correct.

thanks Possum and Hetho. I have done a bit of painting before but never a van. Wraps look interesting. dont know why i didnt think of that. Problem with this aliner is that it has a hammered finish..not flat. I heat gunned off a little and the old glue needs removing.
you could look at using a decent Marine 2 Pack from someone like Whitworths.
I did work there a few years ago, and they carried both the International and Norglass ranges. You would get a good strong finish, and it would likely cost between $250 and $350 for your Primer, Undercoat and Top Coat, and it will give you years of protection. Norglass would cost about 70% of the International products, but will still give a first rate finish.
I suggest you either call of visit a Whitowrths near you (all capital cities and a number of regional cities along the east coast and have a chat to them.
