Covid-19 Quarantine Breach, again

Here we go, here we go, (again)

I have read (but never saved any articles of the story), that in order to allow the international travellers/workers to quickly return to Australia, they could quarantine at their own chosen abode/home etc

The pic shows what has happened very recently, as it is in todays news

We all know that in the past this was one of the reasons, why we went to strict hotel quarantine, as some people can not be trusted to do the right thing, hope that the authorities can learn a lesson here

Link to the pic below, which was taken from a live news blog

Once they have done quarantining, paid their fines and accom. costs, kick them out of the country. If the gov. did that to every international traveller, whom broke covid rules, others would not do the same. Make the fines 10000 dollars, for breaking the rules both for Aussies and the internationals.

What part of, Close The Gate, does our government not understand.

Trusting people will bring us undone....we have this under control in Aus at the moment so why risk it.

It is beyond belief that anyone thinks that no one will break isolation regulations and if these men are infected then this virus can then be potentially spread throughout our country if not held to task...

Deport them I say and mark their passports never to be allowed back in.

We only heard of this case because they were caught out........

Yep, send them back. Just arrived and ignoring the conditions of your entry, just nick off.

As far as I am aware. Some countries got it right.

You stayed in your home, you received random text messages few times a day & had to respond to quickly together with a photograph of you & your environment (inside your home).

There was also at least daily knock on the door as well & all food & medicine supplied.

If you failed you were moved to the government hilton!

I do not wish to be a bearer of bad news

But...

I see no reason to keep my head in the sand

There has been an outbreak of Covid-19 in Adelaide

From what I can make out, on the news so far

A person working in a medi-hotel, is the most likely suspect, who has passed it on to an least two other people

That is 3 people in the community

Link below

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-11-15/sa-reports-new-coronavirus-cases-outside-of-hotel-quarantine/12885746

Edit to say that the news has been updated, and it is now 4 people

Just goes to show we need to slice & divide. We are not going to any family Christmas gatherings this year. You are a long time dead!

Personally if the word Covid was replaced with Polio I think people would be a lot more careful.

So do we lock ourselves inside for ever? Even with a vaccine the virus will still be around. We don't stop driving because there are a few drunks or drug addicts on the road. We have to learn to live with covid-19. We also have to keep it in perspective. Australia's overall deaths are no different this year. So maybe covid-19 has a silver lining for some folks. How many 'may have' died from the flu but haven't this winter.

Time to be rational about covid-19. We do everything as 'normal'. But we are very aware of social distancing. We wash our hands more than we ever have. But we aren't putting our life on hold for such a very small risk. (Maths tells us the odds are very small).

And I promised not to comment again on covid-19. But .....

Maths?  Odds of what? "very small risk" of what?

In which location? When? The odds are not "very small" if you are in contact with somebody infected....  Nor are the odds "very small" that infection will spread exponentially if not contained by isolating the infected (isolating them, not having them wandering about with washed hands).

Stopping numpties from breathing on you is not as easy as you think, when you've got morons parading around when they are meant to be in quarantine like those the subject of this thread.

We are not locking ourselves in at all.

We have made a choice to minimise contact with everyone for the foreseeable future. Shop & walk where & when there are less people.

If it takes another year it's the least we can do to help ourselves & help others.

With all the knowledge & resources our society has in 2020 compared to the Spanish Flu is it really such an imposition to be a bit pro active.

We are not suffering by any stretch of the imagination. Quite frankly we are enjoying the quieter places we have found.

i for one think i'm doing the right thing , keep my distances avoid crowds or carry a face mask in case i find myself in places that maybe higher risk, use sanitizer ect, ect, then you see the crowds at some places(mostly younger crowds mixed with alcohol) no care about their health or anyone else's . we shouldn't have to lock our selves up but we should be responsible till we get past it .

all it takes is one person who thinks the rules do not apply to them, to cause a major problem . adelaide is fast becoming an example

It appears that it may have been in the community, for nearly a week, before someone was sick enough to be tested

The latest count is 17, but hopefully, they have found everyone who is Covid-19 positive, and that this outbreak will be contained

I do not know the answers, except to say that my opinion is, that hotel quarantine seems to be the weakest link

Perhaps hotel quarantine should not be in populated areas, perhaps prefabricated dongas could be placed in a more isolated area

 This is a real concern.

The problem may be aerosols in enclosed environments & the powers that be keep saying aerosols are not a problem.

P.S. Writing this while the afternoon sun is streaming in through the window. I really need to vacuum again seeing all the fine particles suspended in the air!

You may be onto something there, Whenarewethere

I seem to recall quite a few years ago, there was a vacuum cleaner, which was filled with water

The claim was, that the vacuumed air was deflected into the water, trapping the fine particles, suspended in the air

You did not hear this from me, and do not tell Donald

Perhaps the same type of vacuum cleaner, filled with disinfectant, instead of water, may help kill the virus, in hotel quarantine

Whether aerosols are a major issue or not. I think at the very least take this onboard & spend as little time as possible indoors until people can give concrete answers.

The other issue has been a lot of health workers getting Covid because the blue surgical masks leave a gap around the nose so less than 100% of the air one breathes is actually being filtered.

Workers have been jumping up & down for N95 masks but have been told the non fitting blue masks are ok.hmm

Well that's South Australia in almost total lockdown for at least 6 days.

Let's hope they get on top of it.

I also hope that South Australia, gets on top of it, I have both family and friends, who live not that far, from the current breakout

I would just like to point out, that I for one, have no animosity against any people in any State, which has had a breakout of Covid-19

I have said it before, and I will say it again, it is luck that West Australia, has not had a breakout, and (in my opinion), breakouts will continue, until we learn to contain them

What the authorities have learned, from this particular hotel quarantine breach, is that they should have been testing the hotel workers/guards for the virus

I have read that in South Australia, the workers/guards in the medi-hotels, will now get tested weekly, (not sure what happened before the breakout)

I have not got the articles at my fingertips, but I have read, that some health authorities, say that quarantine, should not be in populated areas

My gut feeling tells me, (I am not a medical person), that I agree that quarantine, should not be in populated areas

It makes you wonder what the SA authorities were doing when Vic had the outbreak. Did they not review their own policies and procedures and learn from the Vic experience? From the outside looking in the most at risk are the workers at the hotels. The very ones who are mixing with the quarantine guests and the general population. no

Centuries ago with outbreaks of the plague, it ravaged the cities but villages avoided it or at least they didn't get it until there was contact with the cities.

The more we can minimise intermingling the greater we can slow it down, or even get rid of it.

P.S. We have relatives in SA.

Brother in law has hay in the paddock waiting to be baled. Technically he now can't leave his home to get it into the shed before the weather breaks!!

The SA lockdown does not apply to people performing agricultural work. There are workplace restrictions but there are quite a lot of exempt workplaces and activities. It's not a total lockdown (yet) as some people think.

Kebbin it seems you have all the answers then? Brother in law isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. He asked, via my wife, and I posted here to see what others knew. But if you know everything then give me your email address and I'll pass it on to him.

Moving hay is agricultural work. Making hay you need to stay indoors!

Whenarewethere, beat me to it

My interpretation, is that agriculture is exempt from the 6 day circuit breaker

Below is the link to the SA Police website, they seem to be the organisation who will decide, who will/will not be exempt

They say that they will change the criteria as more info becomes available, or words to that effect

https://www.police.sa.gov.au/sa-police-news-assets/add-to-all-lsas/south-australia-circuit-breaker-information#.X7T5-VBS-70
