We do not watch that much free to air TV. But during the 3-day lockdown, we did manage to view a lot of Free to air TV.
I must comment that we were amazed at the number of advertisements during any hour.
This brings me to the point:-
Is there such a thing nowadays as a watchdog on Free to Air TV and Fox as to the amount of time that they can spend in an hour advertising?
I also note that they take up a lot of time promoting their respective TV station's programs during the break period. Is this counted in the allocated time for commercials??
My understanding is John, self promotion is not counted.
Mate, slip over to the catch up channels, they are worse.
I mainly watch Netflix series.
Not only TV either. I stream a Melbourne radio talk station that was taken over by one if the TV channels and ever since, the number of adds are horrific. Not only that, when the different announcers would go on leave people within the radio station would fill in. Now, the TV personalities take over, mainly news reporters.
Gee mate, you nearly got me on my soap box.

What annoys me about the adds is the volume. I've done some research on them and they have to meet an 'average' volume. So in a 30 second add they can have 15 seconds of soft music and 15 seconds of VERY LOUD MUSIC. They also have sound compression, where they take out all the silence and it becomes one long LOUD ADVERTISEMENT. Now I'm shouting!
The best thing ever invented is the mute button.
Or the off button.
Hi all, this also one of my pet hates. The last time I checked on this the commercial channels were supposed to be limited to 12 minutes in the hour for ads. This does not include promos, it also does not include, to the best of my knowledge, those crafty little bits that they put on the bottom of the screen and the ads, because that is what they are, "so and so company is proud to sponsor this programme".
I checked a Melbourne commercial station a while back and, in one hour not counting promos and the like, came up with 14 minutes on the stopwatch in the middle of a very popular show. The problem is as always, no policing of the regulations. The regulatory body the Australian Communications and Media Authority, (ACMA) have the power to police these TV stations but do not seem to have the will or the inclination to do so. Until one of them cops a sizeable fine or threatened with loss of licence, they will continue to flout the law with regard to their licence obligations.
A word in conclusion. We have long since ceased to watch commercial stations due to the amount of absolute rubbish that they transmit. (there are the odd times that they have something worth watching) The ABC is almost as bad with their endless promos.
Gee, I feel much better now!!!!!!!!

In the lates 50's ,my parents only watched TV when they showed a movie on the box , during the day the radio was on for about 2-3 hrs. Now , in a lot of houses ,the stupid thing runs all day, and they have satellite tv to watch it in the bush.
It is now around 16 minutes per hour on a rolling average, so they can whack in plenty on a "popular" show. Also 2nd channels are more, plus promos and community announcements dont count either. Lots of mute, and more and more totally off here.
I have complained several times and ha b ha, totally subservient to the Media owners.
Dont start on the Hardy B Normal version of a newspaper either. 16 pages in the middle and then about 16 through last Saturday Herald Sun and all count as page content somehow.
Last night Inspector George Gently, "burning man" episode. Original run time was 90 minutes (bbc). Published run time on channel guide onscreen was 133 minutes. It well and truly went that long.
Now I am not the smartest in the shed, but how can that possible compute? please Plain Truth with your snip on regs.
