I've taken the risk of a flu shot every year for many years and that paid off...haven't got the flu.!smile

When I get notified I'll be first in line for this Covid vaccine.

I have never had a flu shot and I have never had the flu.

I might just wait to see how it goes.

Though if I wait a couple of years I'll be in the frail & vulnerable group that it is now killing.

Will you consider any side effects which, by then, may be apparent or will you just blindly go ahead irrespective?

The logical course is to make a decision based on expert advice, i.e. a trusted GP, it's a personal decision as to whether you choose to accept or ignore the advice.

The last place I would look for help in making an informed choice would be a forum such as this, too much misinformation and rubbish is bandied around to be of any use whatsoever.

Forums are inhabited by far too many people peddling conspiracy theories, misinformation and Luddites with crazy idea's.

As far as I'm concerned health advice should be a banned topic, along with politics and religion, one only has too look at the health forum on this site, some of the advice offered, whilst well meant, is terrifying.

I'll say it again, ask for health care advice from a professional, not a bunch of unqualified people on a forum.smile

Who's asking for health advice? I just took it to be how some people feel about the issue.

I will have until Feb/March to assess the results overseas,if there are no problems there I'm in.

Obviously I will heed the advice of the Aus Health Authorities.

It's a discussion on a health matter of concern to many people, who may or may not be influenced by the opinions offered.

I've offered an opinion, take it or leave it, I won't argue the point.

My last post to this thread.smile

I'm very happy for people to not have the vaccine. It just means that I'm more likely to get before others. Also, more people die of COVID-19 than the vaccine (there's no scientific proof that the vaccine caused the deaths) so I'm happy to get vaccinated. I'll also be allowed to attend places that require vaccination before entry.

I'll be doing my bit for herd immunity.

It looks to me like the government are already holding back to make sure it is as safe as possible. I will evaluate the situation for myself but at the moment I am happy with all the precautions that are already in place.

To the best of my knowledge

The vaccine in Australia, will be rolled out in sequence, as laid down by the health guidelines

My age group 70 to 79, will be in the second call up

I assume, (but do not know, and have not looked into it)
That one day I will be told to go to, (such and such a place), to receive the Covid-19 vaccine

Some time later (after I have had the first vaccine), I will be told to go to, (such and such a place), to receive the booster vaccine

I would be surprised, if the authorities would be prepared to allow someone, to dictate when they would receive the vaccine, as the are about 26 million of us here

When I consider the logistics of vaccinating 26 million people, twice within a few short weeks/months
I doubt that they will keep some on hand, for when/if any anti anti-vaxers decide to change their minds

I believe that it will be the humane thing, to send any surplus vaccines we have left, to the countries that are hard hit by Covid-19

Also I have read, but have had no reason to keep any links, but I am sure people can google it

  1. West Australia has said that it will not fine anyone for refusing the vaccine
  2. One State (I think it was NSW), are thinking of a phone app, that says you have had the Covid-19 vaccine
And if you have not had the vaccine, you will be refused entry to certain places

It looks like I was wrong, when I said

I would be surprised, if the authorities would be prepared to allow someone, to dictate when they would receive the vaccine, as the are about 26 million of us here

As I have found some more information

The fourth call up for the vaccine will be
Balance of adult population
Catch up any unvaccinated Australians from previous phases

This is quoted as the source:

https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/thousands-of-israelis-tested-positive-for-coronavirus-after-first-vaccine-shot-1.9462478

The article states that 5.4% of people were testing positive up to 1 week after receiving the vaccine, 8.4% between the 8th and 14th day, 7.2% between the 15th and 21st day, and 2.6% between day 22 and day 28.

One thing the article doesn't say is whether the infections are less serious in vaccinated patients than non-vaccinated.

"The infection statistics among those who have been vaccinated in the general population illustrate the significance of the passage of time in building immunity. According to Pfizer, the big jump in immunity is meant to come between day 15 and day 21, when the vaccine's effectiveness is meant to go from 52 percent to 89 percent, after which the second dose is meant to bring the vaccinated percent to a state of 95 percent protection."

"Israelis aged 60 and older are at this point the vast majority of those "veteran" vaccine recipients, who have gotten the shot two or more weeks ago. To date, 86 percent of those aged 70 to 79 have been vaccinated, along with 80 percent of those 80 or older and 68 percent of those aged 60 to 69. Pfizer had reported that the vaccine had been highly effective among those 65 or older, providing 95 percent protection among the 7,000 participants in that age group in its trials."

"Meanwhile, serological tests done on employees of Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer a week after they had received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine showed that of 102 employees tested, 100 had antibody levels between 6 to 20 times higher than they had presented a week earlier.

Sheba staffers are very encouraged by these results, and according to Prof. Gili Regev-Yohai, director of the hospital's infection prevention and control unit, "It's exciting. It means that the vaccine works wonderfully and that we are hoping to see a drop in the incidence of infection in a few days.""

So your approach is exactly the same as mine: wait and see what happens.

The only difference between us is the time-line and no one on the planet knows what that is.

No, not for me it isn't.

I want my opinion to be challenged, I want to be forced to consider
the merit of what I believe, I want to change my view if I consider
the evidence offered is convincing.

Who would not!?

Would you rather be stuck for ever holding an opinion which is wrong?
Which flies in the face of logic or newly discovered facts?

If we cannot or will not change our minds then we are fools.

Open discussion is the key to this, listen to others, consider what
they say, judge an argument on its merit not via your prejudice. If
we close discussion then we close intelligence and enlightenment.

the article seems to be selective reporting. no mention of anyone dyeing/or how the virus effected them after the jab or what the infection rate was compared to non jabbers.
facts can be made to say just about anything by omission .

"Will you consider any side effects which, by then, may be apparent or will you just blindly go ahead irrespective?" Just as you do every time you put food in your mouth, have a shower, cross the road, get into a car, drive around a blind bend, etc etc etc. Everyone does it all day every day.

 dogbox ,

the article seems to be selective reporting.

I see and hear every day the same story about the virus ,no body in the media has a different view ,they are always right .There are hundreds and hundreds of medical doctors and professors who believe that lockdowns and masks don't work. They have the evidence to prove it , but nobody in the media will report it.
I am not against the vaccine , but I don't like to be forced (black mailed) to take it, we don't  know enough what side effect the vaccine   will have , you are right ,selective ( or not reporting) reporting from the media ,   cheers

Going to be at least a couple of months before I get to front up for a jab. I will get vaccinated when my turn comes. Ill also make some decisions just before the appointment and after reviewing any and all of the latest reports on efficacy and reliability and side effects.

Hi all just my two pennorth. Some on the forum seem to have reservations with regard to any side effects that may occur with the vaccine. Ok I get that and, to some folks that could be a very real fear. I am not of that persuasion and take the view that if refusing it has the slightest chance of shortening my life, and possibly that of others, then it is a total no brainer. Just my opinion but I fully support the right of others to put their point of view.

Forum. A meeting or medium where ideas and views on particular issue can be exchanged

I see the evidence in Wuhan, Victoria and NSW. Anyone with even an iota of intelligence can see that lockdowns have worked. It's reported in the media every day. Keep your eye on the latest outbreak in China and watch how their latest lockdown transpires.

Thankfully the authorities in this country have followed the prevailing medical advice and ignored the Trumpist garbage that is being peddled by the naysayers.

Well its too late  to find out now, he's gone!!!!!!

"nobody in the media will report it" I think this happened a lot.

I don't know what really went on over there as we were only getting very hostile (possibly biased) media reports.

Who cares anyway? Result could be good or could be bad for Australia.

I know that I am tired of only hearing all the PC and woke stuff and what the Hollywood celebrities think. Its flowing into Australia and we will soon be just as divided as they are.
