909 death in Australia. 800+ of them from one stuff up in Victoria. Hmm that's approx 100 deaths in Australia without stuff ups. Hmm OK. Lets add the 28 from the Ruby Princess. 70+ deaths in Australia from Covid. 2 in the last 6 months. So if we call it 12 months since covid hit Australia then without Vic and the Ruby Princess we have roughly 6 die a month. How many of them in aged care? So let's talk about those who die that were not in aged care. So what's that number? 25 million folks in Australia and that non aged care figure is what we are all concerned about???
Now yesterday I was at my hematologist. I got a tick to get the covid jab. We talked about covid and he pointed out the low number of flu deaths in the last 12 months. so is that a plus against covid numbers?
My point is that you can play with numbers all you like. Make them seem scary or dismiss them. In the end you will use the numbers to help prove a point. But numbers are numbers. One so called 'expert' on the ABC said we would get 150000 deaths. We are a long way short of 150000. Pick your 'expert'. Make your case. But you can't ignore cold hard numbers that tell their own story.
I suggest that low flu deaths is a direct result of social distancing, hand sanitising and PPE.
"Stuff ups" will always occur. They can not be simply discounted.
Isolation of those at risk, discipline, lock downs and contact tracing have put Oz in a unique position in the world. Who would prefer to be in Europe or the US?
Cheers,
Peter
Peter I'm not actually arguing any points for or against. All I'm saying is that the figures can be 'used' to support whatever augment that suits your view of covid.
The figure I would like to see and I'm too lazy to look for it is the total deaths from covid in aged care facilities.
In my opinion the two weak links in Australia's covid system is hotel quarantine and aged care quarantine. If those two situations were made stronger then we may see a better outcome for all. And it's not a left or right argument because both sides have had their hickups.

I would just like to say, that although hindsight is a wonderful thing, my gut feeling from day 1, was that we should ring-fence and/or lockdown the world, to eradicate Covid-19
We now have the situation, were the world is relying on a vaccine.
I have another gut feeling that says, at the end of Covid-19, when the bean counters crunch the numbers, they may find that it had cost more, with stop and start lockdowns, than what it would have cost, for an initial eradication lockdown.
I shall be getting the jab, when it is available, as I think that I am in reasonable health, for my age. If I was not in good health, I would be asking a doctor for their opinion
But my gut feeling says, all vaccines should be sent to the countries which are being overwhelmed with Covid-19, to try and avoid a strain which the vaccine may not cure
What annoys me, is the most vulnerable were the group to die. Those in nursing homes were not going out into the community (mostly) and catching it. It was brought in and given to them. Therefore, I consider the infection of people in nursing homes another stuff up.
Looks like I got my numbers wrong, but in any case I am not an anti-vaxer, as we take every vaccine that we need each year. The thing is these vaccines are safe, this new lot of covid vaccines, they got out of a corn flakes packet,, you might as well say, made the thing in 4 months, where as it usually takes 4 years to get to an acceptable safe vaccine. If you were told this years flu shot had a 10% chance of killing you because of your allergies, would you take the risk, my wife and I cannot take the risk at this time.

We're not going to take the chance! When the approved vaccine is avaiable, we'll get it. We've been having flue shots for a number of years & haven't had the flue in those years. Yes we both have other medical dramas (some of my doctors say "You must seek help quicker as you can die from ..... ").
Yes social distancing & attention to personal hygiene has made a difference - it doesn't hurt to have immunisation backing up that as well. We don't have issues with tetanus, diphtheria, polio, whooping cough, etc, etc any more due to immunisation programs.
And yes we consider ourselves lucky that we live in Australia & the northern part that has had minimal COVID-19 cases. And we thank the work that the govt has been putting into the issue to keep us safe & alive for a few more years (hopefully).

Tony Lee said, " Might need to make an exception for Craig Kelly and his large tribe of "useful idiots". Hmm a bit of political bias creeping in here.
Maybe I'm one of those 'idiots'. So be very very careful of what you say Tony.
Many folks don't like Craig Kelly for two reasons. 1st they don't listen to what he actually says. They only interpret what they want him to have said. 2nd they don't like Craig Kelly because they can't challenge his facts so they make a personal attack instead.
Tony, and others, I suggest you listen to what Craig Kelly says. Not what you think he says.
Craig Kelly is a dangerous Trumpist fool. I have better things to do than to listen to the mindless drivel coming from these idiots and their sycophants.

What a load of cobblers once again from you bgt, nothing at all about politics, just the tosser this person is. If you believe in what he says, fine, thats your opinion Cut the crap bgt about it being about politics, the only one trying to make it political is YOU. Your starting to sound like a parrot! ian
FACTS bgt, not sure where yours are and now who's making it political, left, right or centre!
Does this mean we no longer have to listen to your rants, well halabloodylooya.
Seriously, yes, you are entitled to your opinion but when you are so far from mainstream thinking you really have to expect responses from people, me included.
and
"Maybe I'm one of those 'idiots'. So be very very careful of what you say Tony." your quote from above, if that is not personal I will go he! I think it could also be interpreted as a threat, in my opinion, so again to quote you "So be very very careful" I think you should adapt that same thinking also.
Yes you should be sad bgt
Ian
Seriously, yes, you are entitled to your opinion but when you are so far from mainstream thinking you really have to expect responses from people, me included.
Others who were far from mainstream thinking:
Galioeo
Leonardo da Vinci
Louis Pasteur
Barry Marshall
Dan Shechtman
Isaac Newton
The list goes on....
Now I don't know who's right or who's wrong in the covid thing but I do know it is usually the people who question the accepted wisdom who are often at the forefront of discovery.
