What Gives!

I remember when I was growing up that if I went on a trip or heard about someone's travels then it was described as a "journey". Now it seems that everything someone does in life has to be described as a "journey". We don't go on a diet anymore, we embark on a journey of weight loss. We don't get over a tragedy, we embark on a journey of healing. Every transition in life has now become a bloody journey. Perhaps we need a lifestyle type NRMA person in case we break down on this life journey.

If that isn't enough, no one has a discussion anymore, that is too mundane. Everything now has to be "unpacked". It is not a question of explaining something, it must be "unpacked". I thought that was what I did when I returned from a trip with my suitcase but evidently not.

If I hear it anymore I think I will need a journey to the bathroom to unpack the contents of my stomach.

Absolutely. That word drove me nuts to. But it's had it's day and I'm absolutely happy about it!!

All trends. We don't have fires now. With have catastrophic conditions. Any wonder people are turning off.

It's all to PC.

Pretty much a generational thing, kids tend to reject the language of their elders and adopt their own, take the adjectives (incredible and amazing) in current use by the younger generation, as with absolutely, they will pass into history soon enough.

Right now though everything, including people are incredible or amazing, sometimes things are even (incredibly amazing)biggrin

I think I might need to get on to some Mike. I was watching this ridiculous show on the ABC the other morning whilst waiting for the cricket to start on the commercial channel.
As usual, the news host was interviewing some of the other news people on the show and I became quite engrossed in their language to the extent I jotted down some of the classic phrases.

Just think about these for an example. First of all we were all moving forward, there was a bit of touching bases, then there was some reaching out followed by a bit of bandwidth. If that wasn't enough we then had a bit of moving the needle, taking things offline and then a bit of synergy. If that still wasn't enough to completely do my head in then we then had a bit of inking the deal and something about being on our radar.

After all of that my only concern was that it was too early in the day to have a drink.

I still haven't worked out the phrase "Its not binary" yet. Not sure what it means. Thought it was something to do with the LGBIT (or whatever) terminology but it appears broader than that.

Modernity is also used frequently. New word? or someone read a dictionery?

The use of collective smacks of CCP to me. Everyone is a part of a collective.

The "awesome" irony is that the most ridiculous aspect of Australiana is wasting away one's life watching the most boring game ever devised by the human brain, and listening to boring old farts analysing each ball.

Hmmmmm.Interesting comments indeed, but I wonder how you know so much about a game that you seemingly don't watch? Cheers

I used to enjoy playing it at school and in the backyard, but then I grew up.

Ha Ha!...you might be interested in the more modern versions of the game, such as 'Big Bash'? Yesterday some batsman apparently scored 89 runs off 54 balls,or something like that.Seems that he scored 6 runs 4 times in that innings.....bit more action than test cricket? Cheers

Yeah, that's a lot better. Ironically, the only Test series that I enjoyed watching was when SBS was hosting the Ashes. There were some really close games then. I guess it's the commercial channels that are responsible for a lot of the tediousness.

BTW, just exactly what is being "tested", other than our patience?

I am one of those that enjoy test cricket.

BBL as far as I can see, entails throwing the bat at every ball trying to hit it over the fence. How much skill is attached to that??? Test cricket is the purest form of the game and requires skill from the batsman in placing the ball where the fielder aint. Concentration, a must when facing a 160gram leather bound ball coming at you at 140kph and thats just the quicks! Then there are the spinners. If you think that there is not much skill in that I suggest that you watch the ball by Warney that bowled Mike Gatting.

Test cricket is not fot everyone but, when 90,000 attend the MCG for an Ashes test might I be so bold as to suggest that it has a bit going for it??????

To each his own.............
