Hopefully there will be a big political correction. I expect there will now be machinations on both sides to ensure that Trump doesn't get a second chance.

When Iran developes a deliverable nuclear weapon or Israel nukes them before they do can I say "I told you so"?

If you ban Trump, or anyone else for that matter, from public life then you no longer have a democracy. (Caveat, criminals).

Think very hard about your statements and their consequences.

Certain individuals in our country are banned from public office and for good reason. This does not mean it is no longer a democracy.

My opinion of democracy is

  1. At election time, we all get a chance to cast one vote
  2. The candidate who gets the most votes is elected
  3. At the next election time, we get the chance to vote again
  4. Once again the candidate who gets the most votes is elected
  5. When any candidate does not get enough votes, they do not get elected
  6. When any candidate (who may be a current leader) does not get enough votes, they have lost their job

When we get a current leader outright lying, saying (without proof) the election was rigged, etc
Trying to manipulate others, to overturn the official votes, to stay in power
Then I will assume that this person does not believe in democracy, and should be barred from public office

Guys you need sound grounds and strong laws to ban someone from public office. Until something is proved otherwise then banning someone because you don't like him is not a democracy. Period. He may have a 'strange' personality. Very 'strange'. But 'strange' is not grounds for banning someone.

And a reminder that lying is not unique to one single political individual. Banning politicians for lying and it would be very lonely in parliament.

As convoluted and 'different' as the USA electoral system may seem to us in the end it worked. That's democracy at work.

Yes I'm glad to see him go. But he has gone because democracy has worked and not because he's not likable.
