I think I should have been more clear in my statement that most of these crimes go unreported.
What I should have said and meant to say was that most of these crimes outside the ones involving parliamentarians and sportsmen going unreported by the media to the public. I did not mean to infer for one moment that these crimes are becoming acceptable because they were not being reported to the police.
As I said above these actions are abhorrent and to add, they deserve the full force of the law should the accused be found guilty.
Because we are participating on a forum which is male dominated how dare that any of you question how I and other females may act in any situation.
Unfortunately this is a part of the overall problem.
A group of males may want to think they know how a female might respond to rape but I assure you that for myself and other females I know, would not lay naked for hours, on a lounge in a parliamentarians office or anywhere for that matter if we had been raped.
I can assure you all that if I had been raped as has been stated I would have insisted support from the security staff.
The overall story is a great attention getter for the media and certainly a great box of ammunition for the opposition parties, but it does nothing for the guy who might be charged and convicted of rape because after two years the story now doesn't help the females career but is great for another parties political agenda.
Unfortunately in some cases females can be quite manipulative when it suits and actually may tell lies as was indicated by a misguided statement by the minister.
I hope this is brought to the attention of the courts if this case is prosecuted.
Meanwhile in Queensland Andrew Laming having been sent to the marketing dept twice for being a dill finds himself explaining why upskirting in a shop is all good clean fun, but in the meantime, I might take some extended sick leave to spare the marketing dept having to advise that there is nothing to see and watch out because this is going on everywhere and the labor party is to blame.

It is unfortunate that examples such as yours above is all to common in many areas these days.
When someone can nail a politician then that is a trophy bag.
This type of conduct is totally unsatisfactory and should be treated with the heaviest of penalties from the courts if one is proven to be guilty. Again, unfortunately most of these parasites are let go with nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
It is not the Labor or Liberal party's fault but it is a mental illness or at the least, the lack of respect of the offender, which seem to be getting more exposure than we have ever seen and I imagine this is due to social media.
These exposures will become more commonplace and those who think that they wont be caught are dreaming. Our political party's need a good clean up and these politicians need to set an example as to how we all should behave with respect to all others both female and male.
Unfortunately in many political arenas dishonesty and underhanded dealings have been commonplace for years. If someone in private enterprise did some of the things that some pollies have done they would be in gaol long term.
Hi Angie. I don't pretend to know how anyone feels. What I do know is that through my career I have heard the testimony of many female victims and also their responses when I have cross examined them. I have also acted for people seeking criminal compensation, both female and male, who have been the victims of sexual assault. One thing that always stuck in my mind was the claim from these poor people was that unless you had bruises or broken bones, no one believed you.
I think the police do a wonderful job. My old dad was a police officer and I know just how tough they do it. There are times though when an alleged victim presents and is informed that there is insufficient evidence or it is your word against theirs, which is correct. I can't imagine but do try to understand the humiliation, the anger, the sheer desperation that a victim would feel. I know from inmates in the prison system who have told me their stories. The intimidation, the fear that no one will believe them over more powerful figures.
I don't know what happened in the present case. The one thing I do know is that something must have happened that caused not one, but two ministers to become involved and offer support for this young lady's welfare. The fact that an office was deep cleaned over a weekend. I also understand the reason why she has gone to the media. The average person feels they cannot afford the law, they can't take on big business or the Government and therefore MSM will give them their support in their fight for justice.
It is just my personal view, but I think this young lady is very brave. If it was just about money she would have been bought off months ago. This is not about money, I think this young lady has just given a lot of other people great hope.
By the by, no one informs the courts about people being manipulative or anything like that. That is just opinion and not admissible. The jury get a warning to disregard media articles and not to discuss with family and friends. It is tried on the evidence and believe it or not, it works. As to the statement from the Minister, the Minister said that related to the claim she was not offered counselling straight away, not about the allegation being disbelieved. Counselling for what you may ask if it was not reported at the time.

I totally agree with you, there are a lot of polys that need to go, Scumo is still hoping it will go away, but it will not and I expect he will also be one to go. I wonder if anyone actually believes him when he said he did not know what was going on in his own ministry and his own office ?
Thank you for your observations, views and honest input.
I sincerely hope that anyone that is charged and brought before the courts for rape can expect that the excess of media reporting in this case, wont affect the outcome.
It is a shame that what is perceived by many to be a wayward night of passion can cost so many their careers as well as the possibility of a man going to gaol.
Although not completely the same I recall the case of Monica Lewinsky.
After the exposure of the now famous event she has been offered several lucrative positions representing different groups but she openly admits her career is not where she wanted it to go.
She has suffered unbelievable ridicule from the media, the media never let up while they think they have a good story.
For anyone interested here is an article from time magazine on that girls life after an indiscretion in a house of parliament.
This bloke wouldn't be the first shock jock to say something controversial about a current news situation.
I certainly hope that this fellow didnt lose his job over a lie of which he had no control.
My thoughts are if that what he said was so offensive to the listeners of his program then his fate would be sealed but to get the sack over an unproven embarrassing situation that occurred between a female and a male is not right.
The pair had no right to carry on the way they allegedly did in an office in Parliament House and to me that is the actions of a very silly little girl and a very silly little man.
Getting the sack for speaking the truth is just not Australian.
I was under the impression that Britney Higgens came forward because the Australian of the Year, Grace Tame, called for women to come forward. Anyway, that will be resolved in the courts.
However, there are more reports of the misogynistic behaviour in parliament house:
Former Labor MP Kate Ellis leads group of female politicians lifting lid on 'toxic workplace culture' in Parliament House
There's also a free to air, TV show, on Australian Story at 8pm (AEST) tonight on the ABC. Personally, I don't think that I'll watch it. It'll be too depressing to see our representatives behaving like animals. In fact
Jeremy Cordeaux was sacked because of his misogynistic comment. It wouldn't matter if it was Britney Higgens or another case of disrespect, the issue is that he's saying it was the woman's fault and that's why, and rightly so, he should be sacked. It's not the woman's fault. It's the man's fault who shows disrespect for the women and he just did that himself.
I'm so surprised that people are not realising this. Although, the comments on another thread is Just Joking shows that there are still a lot of people who think misogyny is acceptable.

And you were there that night Buzz??
No one knows what the actual truth is.
For all we know the whole alleged act of debauchery may have been instigated by the female.
Heaven forbid this would not be the first time...
Being caught out in your bosses office throws an entire new light on the events.
Calling someone a silly little girl and a lying cow is only misogynistic if those comments are not true.
