During these hideous floods up here on the mid north coast of NSW a group of Sikh people arrived and distributed food to people who were isolated. As well as this kind gesture they also set up food stalls and cooked lovely meals, all vegetarian, for the local people, all for free.
If that was not enough, they also donated a washing machine so the SES and other rescue personnel could wash their clothes. All this, delivered with a happy smile from a kind face.
I recall as a boy my old dad told me about the Sikhs he met during World War Two in the Middle East and thought they were some of the bravest people he had ever met.
After the goings on in our national capital over the last few weeks it restores your faith in humankind.
There is a large Sikh community around Woolgoolga in NSW and they are some of the nicest people I have met. Always good for a chat and a laugh. What was even more impressive about the Sikhs that turned up during the flood was that they had driven a few hundred kilometres in the truck to come and assist the others that were helping out.
