I have a health issue that sees me at Pathology very regularly. I have had hundreds of gallons, , of blood taken in the past few years. Today was another visit.
Normally I have to fast which means getting there before food deprivation makes me cranky. Early morning there was always a lineup and a wait of up to an hour wasn't that uncommon. This morning I walked in and 4 nurses were standing talking. I was the only one there. The past several times the same has happened. In fact for the past 6 to 9 months I was always able to walk straight in and have them take the blood sample with no wait time.
I got talking to them today. They told me that their work is way down. Their opinion was that many folks are just too scared to go out and have blood tests. They are beside a large clinic. That clinic is usually like a factory. Patients in one door and out the other. About 12 to 15 doctors. That clinic is now back to about 6 to 8 doctors. Folks simply not coming in for checkups. I use another doctor. He has gone from 3 back to 2 doctors in his clinic. So whats it all mean and what has it to do with covid?
Well it seems, talking to my doctors and today's nurses, that folks are simply too scared to go out and see their doctors. No regular check ups. No blood tests. No referrals.
So will we see a spike in other 'deaths' or serious illnesses in the next year or two because of covid but not by covid? Has all the scare mongering, by politicians and the media, potentially cause more grief than covid itself? Has the cure potentially be worse than the virus?

You do go on BGT, on and on and on
and by the way, sick of your continuous mention of YOUR health problems

Quite a lot routine blood tests no longer require fasting to get a useful and interpretable result. Early morning line-ups are disappearing and the changes took place at S&N August/September 2020. Not Covid related.
Some people like me, and maybe bgt, have few outlets to talk to other people Wanda, so Wanda, it should not be a problem to other people, what someone wants to bring up on a forum if they so choose. I left a big well know forum a month ago, because even though I had a fair few members enjoy my convo's, 2 people were constantly trolling me, and I findly had enough, you come across like a troll, I get the impression I will be leaving this forum also soon so, at the moment just let things be.... for a while will you.

If you make a comment on any forum you have to expect both the positive and the negative comments, thats life. People don't always agree, I get that, but if you put it out there you have to be prepared for any, thats any, feedback good or bad.
I am definitly not a troll, but if you think that well thats fine. I do follow one other forum but find this one at times is taken over by a few who sit back and push their own agendas, again again and again. There is no need to go on and on about something just to get your point over.
As I have said, put it out there, well, expect some flack, as I will probably get!

I tend to agree with Ian, some people do seem to (over share) when it comes to health, I guess its because they have no other outlet.
If you feel the need to discuss health issues there is an appropriate Grey Nomad forum Health & Wellbeing, an area I don't visit.
We all face health issues as we age; I along with most others prefer not to go public about our problems.
I imagine if people joined a forum dedicated to the health problem they are experiencing they may well be received with a much higher degree of compassion, though not guaranteed, a person close to me experienced a major health issue and joined an appropriate forum, most were very helpful and supportive, however there were also the disrupters and stirrers there as well
Seeking health advice from unqualified people on a public forum is guaranteed to produce misleading and sometimes dangerous information, if you have health issues seek professional help, and if you dont understand the advice/information being provided, ask questions, its in your own interest.
bgt, I've had my blood test monthly since 2007 and these all required fasting until the second half of 2020. Specialist blood test results happen about 3 times a year too but these typically aren't fasting tests. Like you, the first few times I noticed short waiting times and mentioned it as a by-the-way thing to my GP at next visit (I see every three months unless blood test results need attention) and he explained the changes to testing protocols. As I understand things, some tests still require fasting but quite a lot don't require fasting now. In general, GP and specialist visit numbers did drop in 2020 and their peak groups have asked Fed and state governments for awareness advertising but I haven't seen any that I've noticed.
Thank dabbler. I have a blood clotting issue that needs constant watching. Add to that very high cholesterol. So about every forth visit they require fasting.
Wanda, Flak not flack. Word is derived from a German Anti-aircraft weapon used in the 2nd world war. Frequently used on this forum to denote a verbal attack of some sort but then, you would be very well acquainted with that wouldn't you????
