ABC doctored footage to indicate the dancing was done in front of Chief of Defence.

The dance was performed prior to the commencement of the commissioning formalities and prior to the arrival of His Excellency the Governor-General, chief of navy and commander Australian fleet, a Defence spokeswoman said.

NCA NewsWire can confirm ABC tweeted footage that cut to Mr Hurley falsely showing him watching the performance.

Unless your an ABC basher, never going to change their minds regardless, I still think overall between 3,7, 9, 10 and Murdoch they are the best of a very bad bunch!

Hi everyone,

As a retired naval officer myself, and the wife of a former Chief of Navy, I was disgusted by what the ABC did.  It was mischievous and appalling.  Officers, sailors and navy families more broadly are very angry that such an important ceremony for the ship's company has been made to look cheap and controversial.  It is a disgrace.

I expect that the ABC's own Media Watch will take them to task. Is there any other media outlet that can say the same?

As expected ...

Yeh, unlike the commercial stations ABC does usually apologise when they get it wrong.

I must be getting old, it didn't seem appropriate to me either.

I'll take bets on the ABC's Media Watch taking on the dance story. Even if they do they will have some lame excuse.

ABC's Media Watch , I often watch it. Not unusual for them to have a crack at ABC.

I
Would be good if someone reported back on that. I'm unlikely to catch it over the next few weeks.

Do any other channels do a similar thing?

OB, other channels do not even respond to any "contact us " forms or emails. They sprout they are part of Free to Air Tv, a most responsible association. But they condone about 10 gambling ads in less than an hour, or multiple replay of the same ad in one ad break. Our off button is now on more than off.

Media watch did have a go at the ABC, as they often do, but from memory(I think) Paul Barry said "he" thought it was done more in error than a blatant attempt to mislead.

I love my ABC, but they have never responded to any of my attempts to contact them via the Internet.

Hmmm. We only have video of the dancers. Let's splice in a separate video of the dignitaries and make it look like they were watching.  Misleading is my take, with Paul Barry continuing the facade.

The ABC never misses an opportunity to be divisive in their leftist perspective.

The offical line is :

"The Navy said none of the officials or dignitaries, such as the governor-general, had seen the performance as it had occurred before they arrived".

So if "no one" was watching what was the point of it all?

The way I see it was, there were offical naval personel(quite a few) in attendance for the dance routine(trying to be kind calling it dance) but not the GG and some other high ranking navy staffers

Not sure really why the ABC is taking "all" the flack, surely the navy organisers should be held accountable! Maybe they are!

Still, not the end of the worldbiggrin

Ian

The point is that the ABC knowingly edited a film clip/news item to give a false impression of what really happened.

Oh dear, the precious darlings are feeling threatened.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-04-15/hmas-supply-101-doll-squadron-defends-performance/100070954

"A Sydney dance troupe whose performance at the launch of a new $2 billion navy ship was panned as inappropriate have blamed coverage by the ABC and other media for making them feel "threatened" and "unsafe", after footage of the routine went viral."

At last, some common sense ...

Peter Dutton says dance at Navy event that sparked viral video 'not going to happen again':

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-04-16/peter-dutton-navy-dancers-made-clear-not-happening-again/100074260

"It is not going to happen again. I have spoken to the great man, the Chief of Navy, but I have made it very clear that that won't be happening again."

'The ABC initially published a video including vision of the Governor-General and Chief of Navy but later clarified they were not present for the performance."

"The Chief of Defence, General Angus Campbell, was present and watched the routine."

ISTM that the flak should have been directed at the military for organising an inappropriate event. Even though the chief of navy was not present, Dutton's comments suggest that he was behind it all. The ABC was a convenient scapegoat, a classic case of misdirection. Even if the event had been a strip tease, the ABC would still have copped a bashing.

The point was the editing to give a false impression. Even the ABC has acknowledged it. And apologized. This isn't new and not just something the ABC is guilty of. All media does it.

Whilst the point of the original post was about the ABC's reporting, in my opinion, this dance performance was totally inappropriate for the occasion and Peter Dutton is quite right to ban it in the future. The dance troupe may well have performed at many other venues of which their performances were in keeping with the occasion but the launching of a military vessel is not one of them to be honest.

If an error of judgement is made by individuals in their choice it is a minor issue. But when an organisation with multiple levels of approval process intentionally misleads, that is far worse. News sites that have the power to influence the population should have a far stronger goal and accountability to present truth in reporting without putting their own bias on it.

It's suppoed to be the news, not their opinion.

dogbox Cher sang on the USS Missouri. After seeing it the US Navy banned any future use of Navy property for such events. Pitty. It was a great performance.

To quote Richard Dawkins.

"X is bad. Y is worse. If you think thats an endorsement of X, go away and dont come back until youve learnt how to think logically.

Mild paedophilia is bad. Violent paedophilia is worse. If you think thats an endorsement of mild paedophilia, go away and learn how to think.

The media, including the ABC are all tarred with the same brush.

I was once an ABC believer, no longer the case.

Sadly to get a balanced view nowadays we need to trawl the various news outlets then attempt to come up with something that seems credible.no

The ABC has abandoned its charter, to report the news accurately, not make or embellish the news

Yep, and an awful lot of advertising that is dressed up as news. And getting an admission they got it wrong is like pulling teeth.

ABC & SBS are the go.

I hope you understand now MH
