 The facial expressions may be due to the "Bert Newton" syndrome (many facelifts) as his career went on he slowly grew a more surprised expression.

I like that description Peter67. Old Bert certainly had some serious work done on his melon. The absolutely shocked or traumatised look mainly occurs with the thirty something set on reality shows especially if they are sitting at a table or on lounges in a group.
