My son, my wife are on my back to reduce my "hoardings" they call it & since twisting my back, pinching some nerves three weeks ago, I'm tending to agree with them .
I've used Gumtree before but found many scammers coming through. What do fellow members use when they down-size? I know I can use this forum for some of it.

Most "hoarding" is of stuff with no commercial or resale value _ try Donations to Men's Shed or Salvo's. Any on-line selling site brings the scammers, grifters and thieves out of the woodwork.
I have had minor successes with furniture by putting up a photocopy picture on local shopping centre notice board - with phone number on tear off strips. Be realistic with pricing (cheap) you only get one bite at the cherry normally - Remember it is surplus to your needs and needs to be gone.

Marketplace, worked for me on objects which I never thought would sell. Itemd which were to good to dump but of no use, fojnd people quite oftdn brought them just to use once, or evdn brought for somebody else, strange world.

Perhaps "hoarding" was the wrong word but I'll see how I go between MP & Gumtree. At least the never used tub liner can't be driven away!

Other half is pretty bad. I do have my clear outs every so often. I get blamed for chucking her stuff out, which I have never done. She finds the objects a few years later.
Still got too much. Everyone comments how clean the garage is. I make sure it doesn't become a dumping ground.
Everyone has too much stuff. If I am not sure if I want to chuck it out. I break it, then the problem is solved.

If selling anything of reasonable value watch out for the scammers who want to pay to your bank account, then show you a fictitious image of their payment receipt. Another one is to pay by Paypal and then pick it up. Paypal does not accept a receipt or even video of the transaction as evidence ... only tracking number from courier or post. If you can't produce that, Paypal will always side with the buyer and refund at your expense. Paypal also allows the buyer to return the item months down the track. You don't get any say in it.
So, pretty much only accept cash on pickup. Be particularly careful with electronic items that can easily be resold.
When we put our GQ Patrol on Gumtree, I got a message that was almost perfect (but the car wasn't going anywhere) - but a day later I got a second message with different details but both were worded almost the same.
I sold some camping gear, a dinghy on GT ok a few years ago - we didn't have the van then so the fridge was required in the car. Time will prove the decision to sell the Trailblazer, the van is 10 years old now.

Scammers on Gumtree usually want you to post it to them, after you have given them your bank details Warren. I had 2 offers to buy a motorhome, if I freighted it to them after they paid, sight unseen.
Buy, Swap and Sell (Facebook Group) really works well, a bit more local than Marketplace. We sold a heap of stuff on Buy, swap and sell Bridgetown when we moved, then a bit more on Buy, Swap and Sell Mt Barker when we moved in.
A lot of the time, I had put a Ad and photo up, went outside and Jayne was inundated with offers to answer in minutes...........worked well for me.
