Lead Crystal Batteries

Hi all, New to this group and just started getting silver not gray yet but starting to go mad, I don't have a van yet, only a well set up Landcruiser with every thing I need to camp in places a van won't travel.

Anyhow on with my question, is anyone running Lead Crystal batteries  as my 2x100 amp lithium batteries are starting to fail after 5 years,  I know there lighter and very expensive compared to AGM and GEL, Lead Crystal batteries seem better and can be completely discharged and recharged with out damaging the battery where's lithium can't be, same as AGM and Gel, manufactures recommended not to discharge them below 50% and preferably not below 70%  as reduces there life cycles so effectively my 2 100Ah batteries only have a safe useable current of 60Ah, with a Lead Crystal 100Ah you effectively have 100 amps available and a life span of 18years on float and 10 to 15 years being discharged  down to 50%, so back to my question are any of you guy running them?

Regards Scott

More to the point, what brand of lithium batteries do you have and what do you think has caused them to fail after only 5 years when I get far longer out of AGM s

Welcome to the forum, Mountain Man

I read about Lead Crystal batteries, quite a few years ago now, but the mainstream battery sellers, do not seem to stock them

I have yet to meet anyone, who are using this type of battery

I would also be interested, on the brand name of lithium batteries, which have only lasted 5 years

We have 2 x 120amp lead crystall batteries, now 4yrs old, in our 4yr old van. So far so good and we have not experienced any problems.
I have never had them below about 12.2 vlts so cannot comment on how far you can take them? We are very power conscious at nights with lights and tv when free camping, which is most of the time.
With 3 x 150wtt solar on the roof we are usually fully charged mid morning on sunny days, if not earlier.
The only problem/issue, I see with them is they are very heavy, slightly more than AGMs buy a couple of kilos.
When they give trouble I will probably look at lithium to save some weight, will loosen the wallet as well!!
Hope this is of some help
Ian
