Did you know that unlike other years you will not get someone knocking on your door with a form? I didn't. So, I have been sitting here waiting, and it was only because I rang to ask where they were, I got their answer otherwise I would have been left waiting.
I thought it would be easier to fill in a paper form rather than go online after last time. The online form is apparently not compatible with a whole list of IT stuff and I have no idea of what versions I have. Could probably find out but all this staying home doing nothing has made me incredibly lazy.
You also need to get a number. For both responses.
Because I have left it so late, I will not get the form in time. But when it does come, I can just fill it in,quote the number they gave me and ring them to pick it up. even if it takes six weeks or so.
I suspect that the info will be as complete and useful as last time.
Wonder how many people will just or shrug their shoulders and say too bad they missed us or say this is too hard risking a $2000+ fine? . although the operator said they probably wouldn't fine anyone. Huh?
The federal government seems to be falling apart and couldn't even organise a chook raffle at a poultry farm. Someone needs to take a few lessons in communication. And try to communicate clearly and concisely about this, the vaccine rollout, vaccine efficacy, and lockup rules etc.
I got the form yesterday and filled it in online on the same day. It was smooth and painless.
It was also the same experience for me Dorian I received the census letter in the mail yesterday, logged on using the info. supplied and filled out the online form - probably took me all of 15 minutes from start to finish. I dont know about other IOS versions but I have a Mac running the latest Big Sur and it was fine.
I know where your coming from MSG I have had experiences in the past trying to use government websites which have ended with me wanting to punch the screen - its gets even more frustrating when you have to try and sort out the problems with them over the phone.
Don't mind the Census, DO mind the ABS attitude that we ALL have smicky doo up to date latest whizz bangery hard ware. Hence asked for paper to be mailed.
It has not yet arrived and to make matters worse we will be on the road to sad family matter of relative only days to live.
Poor ignorant ABS dude on phone today as I was trying to sort this out, told me that ALL Roadside rest areas and camp spots will have people at them to assist me on the night of 10th August. We will of course see if it is true won't we.
I eagerly wait to see.

I slowly realise as I get older that I am definitely NOT the fastest rat in the race.
Also the older I get the more I realise I do not know.

I'll offer $1000 at 10:1 they'll not be anyone from the ABS here on 10th August - unless those 'roos are secretly working for them.... :)

Ours delivered to letter box yesterday, filled in to be returned by pre paid envelope. Pretty easy when retired. Don't know how our limited info's going to help them!!
I am in a park in NQ at the moment and a bloke turned up yesterday arvo at about 5 oclock with a fistful of census forms.
I did my census on line on my IPad in about 10 minutes earlier yesterday and clicked submit so, I didnt need one of his forms.
You get a message on SMS with your Census Number and a receipt number for the completed form.
For that minimum effort on my part, it is not worth the chance of a fine or the hassle of being harrassed.
I don't like being forced to do something that the government wants me to do, as if I am their slave. They do it with voting too, they do it by banning their citizens from going to certain countries in the world, and also now, they have ruled, if you live and work overseas and come back to Australia for any reason, you are not allowed to leave again. This reminds me of the Soviet era, where you would be shot if you tried to leave the USSR, but in this case, you cannot leave again. They haven't put an end date on this law, so it could be forever. We do not have any rights anymore, you supporters of this govt. must see that now!. From the Governments point of view, they own us now. We are owned by them.

You dont have to do the census, you can pay the fine.
If you choose not to do it and then the govt does something that doesnt suit you based on your inaction with a census then you should not complain.
The current overseas travel restrictions are there for a purpose, to protect all of us.
My personal opinion is that all international borders should be closed both ways until we are on top of the pandemic but that has nothing to do with this topic.
I didn't do the census, because I wasn't home last night. I was camping in the bush, very locally under lockdown. Our town isn't under lockdown, but I am. I have been camping since last Friday, so stayed out until today. Had been in Armidale last week. Only found out on the Saturday, that I had to lockdown. I have the right to say whom owns me. I own me, and no government is going to order me to do something against my will. I have a definitive reason for why I believe this, but I won't air it here. NOTE: I agree with locking down for health reasons, but if I was ordered to lockdown for any other reason, not related to health, I would not do it.

A few members of this forum are starting to sound very much like the sovereign citizen nutters in the US, claim exemption from all sorts of laws, refuse to comply with with lawful requests, invariably get arrested (it always ends badly for them) and needless to say they are very slow learners.

Have you checked their pouches Mike you might find a laptop and a modem.

I am not a Sovereign citizen. I just believe that we should have rights. We used to have them, but not anymore. I have lived under a regime for a little while that gave no rights to their citizens, I see the same happening here. When all our rights are finally gone, you people will finally agree with me, but by then their will be nothing that can be done about it.
Australia doesn't have a bill of rights, so technically speaking we haven't had anything to lose. However, the government has enacted some draconian legislation in recent times. For example, if we speak out about the detention of asylum seekers in offshore locations, we can be imprisoned. That's un-Australian.

Covid aside, I repeat, what rights have we lost?
Santa: in discussion try not to call people stupid either directly or by implication, it's disingenuous.
I'm amused by the casual way you utter "Covid aside" as if such is not relevant :)
Over the past 25 years we have had many of our freedoms eroded but I have neither the time nor will to detail them for you - use Google and, in any event, I have no doubt that if government ordered police to shoot (or the like) covid lockdown breakers on site you would find a way to justify that to yourself.
Some of us are not so placid when it comes to government overreach.
