The 2021 Birdsville Races for 2021 have been called off and instead postponed to April 2022.
It means there will be two Birdsville Races events next year - one in April and one in September.
Organisers said postponing the event was the "right thing to do".
We have tried our best, but the health landscape and COVID outbreaks with this new Delta variant have changed significantly in the past two months," said Birdsville Race Club president David Brook.
"Our risk assessment was just too great, and we have a duty of care to our staff, the Birdsville community, ticket holders and the broader population to ensure we are responsible and [cognisant] of the significant health risk facing the country.
"Postponing the Birdsville Races really was the only decision we could make at this time."

Bert Bryant, Now there was one of the best race callers that we had the pleasure to listen to.
I put B.B. ahead of the immortal Mr. Ken Howard ( London to a Brick)
K.H had a saying...... "Never back odds on favourites or run up flights of steps,
As they will both be guaranteed to give you heart attacks."
so very true.
Bloody virus is playing havoc in all walks of our lives.

They can't postpone the 2021 race until 2022 Possum because then it will become the 2022 race :)
It's like the 2020 Olympics - as time is standing still for most of the civilised World - You can delay. The locals are Queenslanders anyway so they won't know the difference - they are used to being at least one year behind.
Note the scheduled 2022 games are still going ahead at the right time.
